Blacksmithing
Blacksmithing is a Production crafting discipline used for metal weapons, shields, heavy armor, jewelry, components, repair, salvage, and equipment masterworking. It turns materials produced through Smelting into finished goods at a Blacksmithing Station.
The equipment system is component-driven: a recipe can accept different blades, sheets, wire, bindings, or other parts, and those choices alter the finished item's inherited Material Crafting Bonuses.[1]

What Blacksmithing requires
| Requirement | Purpose |
|---|---|
| Blacksmithing Station | Opens the Blacksmithing recipe, repair, salvage, and masterworking interface |
| Smithing Hammer | Primary tool used by Blacksmithing recipes |
| Recipe knowledge | Defines ingredients, accepted components, molds, skill requirement, and output |
| Metal and secondary materials | Ingots, sheets, wire, bindings, coal, molds, and recipe-specific leather, cloth, or wooden components |
| Blacksmithing Proficiency | Base production skill; individual recipes and advanced skills may impose further requirements |
| Producer Experience | Supplies the experience pool used to train Blacksmithing skills |
The exact tool and ingredients belong to the individual recipe. A mold is required only when that recipe lists it, and a named component cannot be replaced merely because another component uses the same raw metal.
From ore to finished item
- Mining supplies ore and related resources.
- Smelting turns those resources into ingots, sheets, wire, and many metal components.
- Blacksmithing combines those materials with coal, molds, and cross-discipline components as required.
- The selected components contribute their recorded bonuses to the finished equipment.
- Eligible items may then be masterworked, enchanted, socketed, repaired, or salvaged.
Release 50 expanded conventional refining skills, including Smelting, with speed, batching, and output-related skills for recipes classified as refined materials.[2] Those refining bonuses should not be assumed to apply to every component recipe; follow the recipe's classification and current interface.
What Blacksmithing makes
| Family | Examples | Material or enhancement guide |
|---|---|---|
| Bladed weapons | Dagger, Shortsword, Longsword, and Two-handed Sword | Weapon Enhancement#Metal blades and hilts |
| Weapon components | Metal blades, weapon heads, hilts, sheets, wire, and bindings | Crafting Component and Weapon Enhancement |
| Heavy armor | Chainmail Armor, Plate Armor, and their recipe variants | Material Crafting Bonus and Armor Enhancement |
| Shields | Metal shield recipes and their variants | Weapon Enhancement for components; individual shield pages for exact recipes |
| Jewelry | Crafted metal rings and necklaces | Jewelry Enhancement |
| Decorations and utility items | Recipe-specific metal fixtures, mechanical objects, and decorative goods | Blacksmithing recipes |
| Equipment services | Repair, salvage, and Blacksmithing masterwork upgrades | Sections below |
The Obsidian Forge uses specialized Obsidian recipes and should not be treated as an ordinary Blacksmithing Station merely because many outputs are metal equipment.
Choosing components
The raw material name is only the beginning. Iron made into a hilt does not provide the same value as Iron made into a sword blade, sheet, or binding. Check the component itself and its last-seen release.
| Building | Compare |
|---|---|
| Plate armor | Metal sheets, metal bindings, and any cloth or leather straps accepted by the recipe |
| Chainmail | Coils of metal wire, metal bindings, and any accepted straps |
| Sword or dagger | The exact blade family and compatible hilt |
| Other metal weapon | The exact head or blade family plus its handle or hilt |
| Ring or necklace | The finished metal jewelry recipe, then any eligible socketed jewel |
See Material Crafting Bonus for armor-component values, Weapon Enhancement for representative weapon components, and Jewelry Enhancement for rings, necklaces, and jewels. Those pages expose verification releases rather than pretending every old value is current.
Skill tree
The recorded Blacksmithing tree contains innate production, repair, salvage, masterwork, and mastery skills. It has no active skills.

Items
The following items will have an effect on Blacksmithing Skills:
Items
The underlying skill pages were last checked in different releases. For example, Blacksmithing Proficiency records Release 28, Blacksmithing Mastery records Release 78, and the repair, salvage, and masterwork proficiency pages record Release 110. Treat the dynamic values as versioned records and check the current skill tooltip.
Masterworking
Blacksmithing Masterwork Proficiency increases the recorded chance to successfully masterwork eligible Blacksmithing equipment. Specialized proficiencies cover blade weapons, plate armor, chain armor, and shields, while Blacksmithing Mastery is recorded as improving the chance to revise effects.
The upgrade requires the appropriate masterwork recipe and materials. Available choices depend on the equipment family and slot; applying another result may also affect durability. See Masterwork Blacksmithing Upgrade and the armor or weapon enhancement guide for the relevant historical tables and caveats.
Crafted-gear behavior has changed over time, including exceptional-result changes in Release 89.[3] Do not infer current success chances from an old skill level alone.
Repair
Blacksmithing Repair Proficiency applies when repairing eligible Blacksmithing items with the correct repair recipe and materials at a Blacksmithing Station. Its record identifies Repair Kit - Blacksmithing for minor station repairs and was last checked in Release 110.
Ordinary durability and maximum durability are different. Confirm which repair operation is selected, what it consumes, and which durability value it restores before proceeding.
Salvage
Blacksmithing Salvage Proficiency is recorded as improving the value of items recovered through Blacksmithing salvage. Use a Smithing Hammer at a Blacksmithing Station; the Salvage control becomes available only for an eligible item.
Salvage destroys the source item and does not promise to return everything used to create it. Crafted components, socketed gems or jewels, and metals spent on masterworking or enchanting are not automatically recoverable. See Salvage Item for item-specific recovery rules.
Recipes
The generated Blacksmithing recipes index is populated from recipe data stored on individual item pages. Edit the item or recipe record rather than manually adding a row to the index.
Recipe documents may be purchased, looted, awarded, or traded where applicable. Some recipes are Discoverable, Teachable, or Re-Teachable; others are not. See Recipe Book for those classifications and check the individual recipe's current status.
Version and verification
Recipe and skill pages commonly include a lastseen release. This is when the wiki record was checked, not necessarily when the item or skill was introduced. Generated lists can mix records from widely separated releases.
When testing a Blacksmithing record, note the game release, station type, tool, exact ingredients, skill level, output, and finished tooltip. This is especially important for component substitutions, masterwork choices, salvage yields, and repair behavior.
