Crafting Station

A Crafting Station, also called a crafting table, is the workspace used for Refining and Production recipes. Each station serves a particular crafting discipline: a smelting recipe belongs at a Smelting Station, for example, while a tailoring recipe belongs at a Tailoring Station.
Using a station opens the crafting interface. There an Avatar can browse known recipes for that station, search or filter the list, move the required ingredients into place, and attempt the craft. The interface also reports recipe and success information; list-mode recipe browsing was added during the early development of the current system.[1][2]
Using a station
A workable recipe normally requires:
- the station associated with its crafting discipline;
- the appropriate ordinary crafting tool;
- every required ingredient in the stated quantity;
- any required recipe knowledge; and
- the required level in the relevant crafting skill.
Some recipes also require specialty tools or accept a family of interchangeable components. The recipe shown in the interface—or its individual wiki record—is the better authority than the station's appearance.
Crafting stations are also placeable decorations. Standard, Expert, Founder, and Benefactor station families received decoration surfaces in Release 82, allowing suitable decorations to be placed on them.[3]
Station families
Standard stations
Standard stations provide access to their discipline without the +5 skill bonus associated with an Expert Crafting Station. Their individual pages record known merchants and other acquisition details.
Expert stations
An Expert Crafting Station provides a +5 bonus to the corresponding base crafting skill while it is being used. Expert stations have appeared as premium-store and bundle items, but their availability has changed over time. Consult the individual item page and current in-game sources rather than assuming that an Expert station remains for sale.
Founder stations
Founder Expert stations are visually distinct backer rewards. They provide the expert-station function for their discipline and are historical reward items rather than the ordinary merchant stations. Benefactor variants were also part of the historical reward program.[4]
Station directory
There are five Production disciplines and five station-based Refining disciplines. Agriculture is classified under Refining in the current skill tree, but its planting workflow does not use a corresponding crafting-table family.
Alternative and special stations
Some objects provide a more specialized route into an existing discipline:
- the BBQ Smoker Cooking Station, Large Wood-Burning Stove Cooking Station, and Small Wood-Burning Stove Cooking Station belong to Cooking; and
- the Obsidian Forge is a special Blacksmithing-related station used for its own recipe set.
These should not be mistaken for additional crafting disciplines. Check the recipe's required station before substituting one for the standard table.
Troubleshooting
If a recipe is unavailable or will not activate, check that:
- the recipe belongs to the station currently in use;
- its ordinary and specialty tools are present and usable;
- the ingredient quantities are exact;
- any substituted material belongs to the accepted component family;
- the recipe is known or is explicitly Discoverable; and
- the relevant skill meets the recipe's requirement.
