Jewelry Enhancement

Jewelry enhancement
Jewelry enhancement begins with the metal chosen for a crafted Ring or Necklace. The finished piece can then be enchanted and socketed with a Jewel or Imbued Jewel. Standard jewels add an attunement or trade attunement for resistance to one magic school.[1][2]
This page compares the values recorded on SotAwiki's standard crafted jewelry and refined jewels. Each value is labeled with the game release in which the underlying recipe was last verified. A version is a verification date, not a guarantee that the value remains unchanged, so check the finished-item tooltip before spending rare materials.
Quick recommendations
| Goal | Material or jewel to consider | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Intelligence | +5 Intelligence per ring or necklace, the largest pure Intelligence bonus among the standard metal choices. | |
| Strength | +4 Strength. Meteoric Iron also gives +4 Strength while adding +2 Dexterity. | |
| Dexterity | +4 Dexterity. Bronze and Constantan also give +4 Dexterity plus a secondary attribute. | |
| Mixed physical attributes | Bronze gives +4 Dexterity and +2 Strength; Meteoric Iron reverses that emphasis with +4 Strength and +2 Dexterity. | |
| Hybrid physical and magical attributes | Constantan or White Iron | Constantan gives +4 Dexterity and +2 Intelligence; White Iron gives +4 Strength and +2 Intelligence. |
| General magic defense | +5 Magic Resistance and +1 Intelligence. | |
| Offense or effectiveness in one magic school | The matching standard Jewel | +5 attunement to the selected school. |
| Defense against one magic school | The matching Ward Jewel | +15 resistance to the selected school, at the cost of −5 attunement in that school. |
Characters can equip two rings but only one necklace. That makes ring choices independently repeatable across the two ring slots, subject to the normal equipment and unique-item rules. These recommendations cover recorded base and socket bonuses only; enchantments, artifacts, skills, and the rest of the build can change the best choice.
Metal bonuses
The standard crafted ring and necklace made from a given metal record the same bonuses. Each recipe uses five ingots; the listed result is the total bonus on one finished item, not a per-ingot value.
| Metal | Recorded bonus per ring or necklace | Ring last recorded | Necklace last recorded |
|---|---|---|---|
| +4 Strength | R67 | R67 | |
| +4 Dexterity | R90 | R90 | |
| +4 Dexterity +2 Strength |
R67 | R67 | |
| +4 Strength +2 Dexterity |
R67 | R67 | |
| +4 Dexterity +2 Intelligence |
R67 | R105 | |
| +4 Strength +2 Intelligence |
R67 | R76 | |
| +1 Intelligence +5 Magic Resistance |
R90 | R90 | |
| +5 Intelligence | R67 | R67 |
The corresponding necklace pages are linked through each ring page's item family and include Iron Necklace, Copper Necklace, Bronze Necklace, Meteoric Iron Necklace, Constantan Necklace, White Iron Necklace, Silver Necklace, and Gold Necklace.
Standard jewels
Jewels are the jewelry counterparts of socketable gems. The offensive form adds +5 attunement. The ward form adds +15 resistance but subtracts 5 attunement in the same school.
| Tradition | School | Standard jewel | Ward jewel | Last recorded release (standard / ward) |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Atenism | Sun | +15 Sun Resistance; −5 Sun Attunement | R51 / R90 | |
| Chaos | Chaos | +5 Chaos Attunement | +15 Chaos Resistance; −5 Chaos Attunement | R90 / R90 |
| Gaiaism | Earth | +15 Earth Resistance; −5 Earth Attunement | R51 / R90 | |
| Lunaism | Moon | +15 Moon Resistance; −5 Moon Attunement | R51 / R90 | |
| Necromancy | Death | +15 Death Resistance; −5 Death Attunement | R51 / R90 | |
| Sorcery | Fire | +15 Fire Resistance; −5 Fire Attunement | R51 / R90 | |
| Tempestry | Water | +15 Water Resistance; −5 Water Attunement | R51 / R90 | |
| Thaumaturgy | Life | +15 Life Resistance; −5 Life Attunement | R51 / R90 | |
| Theurgy | Air | +15 Air Resistance; −5 Air Attunement | R51 / R90 |
Attunement and resistance serve different purposes. A ward is not a larger offensive bonus: its −5 attunement is the price paid for the larger school-specific resistance.
Imbued jewels
Imbued Jewels form a much larger special-effect family. In addition to school-themed imbued jewels, the recorded set includes attribute, movement, taming, crafting, gathering, fishing, combat, and creature-themed effects. Because those items are not a single comparable material tier, they are best selected by the exact effect required rather than ranked in one numerical table.
Check the individual imbued-jewel page before crafting. Availability, valid jewelry types, and later enhancement interactions may differ from ordinary refined jewels.
Ring and necklace enhancement rules
| Enhancement | Standard crafted ring or necklace |
|---|---|
| Metal bonus | Inherited when the jewelry is crafted |
| Enchantment | Available according to the individual crafted jewelry records |
| Masterwork | Not available on the standard crafted metal jewelry records |
| Ordinary Jewel socketing | Available through the Crafted/Artifact Ring or Necklace Alchemy recipes |
| Imbued Jewel socketing | Available to crafted jewelry according to the Ring record; verify the individual item and current recipe before use |
Artifact jewelry can have different restrictions. The Ring page records ordinary jewel socketing and enchanting for artifact rings but not imbued-jewel socketing or masterworking. Do not assume those rules apply identically to every artifact necklace.
How the bonuses combine
The metal bonus belongs to the crafted jewelry itself. A socketed jewel adds its recorded modifier, and enchanting can add another layer. Bonuses on two equipped rings and one necklace are then part of the character's overall equipment totals.
Compare statistics with matching units and meanings. Magic Resistance is general, while a ward jewel's resistance is tied to one school; attunement is neither of those. Several underlying records were last checked many releases ago, so use these tables as comparison aids and confirm the current in-game tooltip.
