Carpentry
Carpentry is a Production crafting discipline used for bows, crossbows, hafted weapons, wands, staves, furniture, instruments, signs, structures, repair, salvage, and equipment masterworking. It turns timber and components produced through Milling—along with metal, cloth, leather, and other recipe-specific materials—into finished goods at a Carpentry Station.
Equipment recipes are component-driven. A bowstave, bowstring, handle, weapon head, Heartwood, or strap can change the bonuses inherited by the finished item.[1]

What Carpentry requires
| Requirement | Purpose |
|---|---|
| Carpentry Station | Opens the Carpentry recipe, repair, salvage, and masterworking interface |
| Carpentry Hammer | Primary tool used by Carpentry recipes |
| Wood Rasp or Wood Chisel | Additional tool where the individual recipe requires one |
| Recipe knowledge | Defines ingredients, accepted components, tools, skill requirement, and output |
| Wood and secondary materials | Timber, boards, poles, strips, handles, wax, metal parts, cloth, leather, and other recipe-specific ingredients |
| Carpentry Proficiency | Base production skill; individual recipes and advanced skills may impose further requirements |
| Producer Experience | Supplies the experience pool used to train Carpentry skills |
Do not add every Carpentry tool to every recipe. The Carpentry Hammer is the normal primary tool; rasps, chisels, and other tools apply only when the recipe lists them.
From tree to finished item
- Forestry supplies wood, bark, and related resources.
- Milling turns wood into timber, boards, poles, strips, and wooden components.
- Carpentry combines those materials with wax, metal, cloth, leather, and special components as required.
- Selected equipment components contribute their recorded bonuses to the finished item.
- Eligible equipment may then be masterworked, enchanted, socketed, repaired, or salvaged.
Release 50 expanded conventional refining skills, including Milling, with speed, batching, and output-related skills for recipes classified as refined materials.[2] Those benefits should not be assumed to apply to every wooden component recipe; check the recipe classification and current station interface.
What Carpentry makes
| Family | Examples | Component or enhancement guide |
|---|---|---|
| Bows and crossbows | Short Bow, Long Bow, and Crossbow | Weapon Enhancement#Bowstaves and Weapon Enhancement#Bowstrings |
| Bludgeon weapons | Mace, War Hammer, Two-handed Hammer, and Two-handed Mace | Weapon Enhancement |
| Polearms and hafted weapons | Halberd, Spear, Trident, axes, and other handle-based weapons | Weapon Enhancement#Wooden handles |
| Magical foci | Wand, Staff, and Shepherd's Crook | Focus Enhancement |
| Wooden components | Timber-derived handles, bowstaves, Heartwoods, boards, poles, strips, stocks, and bindings | Crafting Component |
| Furniture and decorations | Chairs, tables, containers, walls, fences, blocks, signs, and other recipe-specific decorations | Carpentry recipes |
| Instruments and structures | Instruments, crafted homes, and other specialized construction recipes | Individual item and recipe pages |
| Equipment services | Repair, salvage, and Carpentry masterwork upgrades | Sections below |
The output families are navigation aids. A metal weapon head may be made through Blacksmithing or Smelting before Carpentry assembles the finished weapon, and not every decoration accepts material substitutions.
Choosing components
The final bonus depends on the actual component, not simply “wood.” Pine made into a handle, bowstave, or Heartwood records different effects and values.
| Building | Compare |
|---|---|
| Short or long bow | The matching short- or long-bowstave plus a compatible bowstring |
| Crossbow | The exact crossbow stock and other components accepted by its recipe |
| Hafted melee weapon | The metal head or blade plus a compatible wooden handle |
| Wand | One Heartwood and one cloth or leather strap |
| Staff | Two Heartwoods and two cloth or leather straps |
| Decoration or structure | The exact recipe; equipment bonus rules often do not apply |
See Weapon Enhancement for bows and melee components and Focus Enhancement for calculated wand and staff totals. Their tables expose the release in which each underlying component was last checked.
Skill tree
The recorded Carpentry tree contains innate production, repair, salvage, masterwork, and mastery skills. It has no active skills.

Recorded skills
| Increases chance to successfully masterwork a carpentry equipable | |
| Increases chance to Revise Effects when using Carpentry Masterwork | |
| Proficiency in Carpentry | |
| In game this skill is called "Carpentry Repair". This skill increases amount repaired for a Carpentry Minor Repair at a Carpentry Crafting Station. | |
| Proficiency in Carpentry Salvage | |
| Unlock more masterwork bludgeon options | |
| Unlock more masterwork polearm options | |
| Unlock more masterwork ranged weapon options |
Items
The following items have the effect of Carpentry:
- Carpentry Hammer with Gold Engravings
- Carpentry Hammer with True Bronze Engravings
- Expert Carpentry Station
- Founder Expert Carpentry Station
The skill records were last checked in different releases. Carpentry Proficiency, Repair, and Salvage record Release 28; the general and specialized masterwork proficiencies record Release 31; and Carpentry Mastery records Release 78. Check the current skill tooltip before relying on an old numerical effect.
Masterworking
Carpentry Masterwork Proficiency increases the recorded chance to successfully masterwork eligible Carpentry equipment. Specialized proficiencies unlock more recorded choices for bludgeon, polearm, and ranged weapons, while Carpentry Mastery is recorded as improving the chance to revise effects.
Wands and staves also list compatible Carpentry masterwork upgrades, even though the visible tree does not have a separate focus specialization. Available effects depend on the exact equipment family, and many results carry a durability cost. See Masterwork Carpentry Upgrade, Weapon Enhancement, and Focus Enhancement for the relevant scope and caveats.
Crafted-gear behavior has changed over time, including exceptional-result changes in Release 89.[3] Do not infer current success chances from an old skill level alone.
Repair
Carpentry Repair Proficiency applies when repairing eligible Carpentry items with the correct repair recipe and materials at a Carpentry Station. Its current wiki record was last checked in Release 28.
Ordinary durability and maximum durability are different. Confirm which repair operation is selected, what it consumes, and which durability value it restores before proceeding.
Salvage
Carpentry Salvage Proficiency supports breaking down eligible wooden equipment and decorations at a Carpentry Station. Use the correct tool and confirm that the Salvage control is available before committing the item.
Salvage destroys the source and does not promise to return every component, gem, jewel, or enhancement material used to make it. See Salvage Item for recorded recovery rules and item-specific exceptions.
Recipes
The generated Carpentry recipes index is populated from recipe data stored on individual item pages. Edit the item or recipe record rather than manually adding a row to the index.
Recipe documents may be purchased, looted, awarded, or traded where applicable. Some recipes are Discoverable, Teachable, or Re-Teachable; others are not. See Recipe Book and the individual recipe's current status.
Version and verification
Recipe and skill pages commonly include a lastseen release. This is when the wiki record was checked, not necessarily when the item or skill was introduced. Generated lists can mix records from widely separated releases.
When testing a Carpentry record, note the game release, station, every required tool, exact ingredients, skill level, output, and finished tooltip. This is particularly important for bowstave scaling, focus component totals, masterwork choices, salvage yields, and structure recipes.
