Tailoring Skills

From Shroud of the Avatar Wiki - SotA

Tailoring

Tailoring is a Production crafting discipline used for cloth and leather armor, clothing, cloaks, backpacks, components, repair, salvage, and equipment masterworking. It combines materials produced through Textiles and Tanning at a Tailoring Station.

Equipment recipes are component-driven. The cloth, leather, bindings, straps, and other parts accepted by a recipe can change the inherited Material Crafting Bonuses on the finished item.[1]

What Tailoring requires

Requirement Purpose
Tailoring Station Opens the Tailoring recipe, repair, salvage, and masterworking interface
Tailoring Scissors Primary tool used by Tailoring recipes
Recipe knowledge Defines ingredients, accepted components, tools, skill requirement, and output
Cloth, leather, and secondary materials Bolts, leather, bindings, straps, thread, wax, fittings, and recipe-specific ingredients
Tailoring Proficiency Base production skill; individual recipes and advanced skills may impose further requirements
Producer Experience Supplies the experience pool used to train Tailoring skills

The individual recipe is authoritative. A cloth recipe cannot automatically accept leather, and two pieces occupying the same equipment slot may use different components or quantities.

From resource to finished item

  1. Foraging supplies cotton and related resources, while creatures and loot supply hides, scraps, and other materials.
  2. Textiles processes fiber into thread, cloth, bolts, bindings, and related components.
  3. Tanning processes hides into leather, straps, bindings, and related components.
  4. Tailoring assembles those materials with any metal, wood, wax, or special parts required by the recipe.
  5. Selected components contribute their recorded bonuses to eligible finished equipment.
  6. Eligible items may then be masterworked, enchanted, repaired, or salvaged.

Release 50 expanded conventional refining skills, including Textiles and Tanning, with speed, batching, and output-related skills for recipes classified as refined materials.[2] Do not assume those benefits apply to every component recipe; check its classification and the current station interface.

What Tailoring makes

Family Examples Guide
Cloth light armor Cloth headwear, chest armor, leggings, gloves, and footwear Material Crafting Bonus and Armor Enhancement
Leather light armor Leather helms, chest armor, leggings, gloves, and boots Material Crafting Bonus and Armor Enhancement
Clothing and wearable goods Clothing, dresses, shirts, trousers, footwear, and hats Tailoring recipes
Back-slot equipment Cloaks, capes, and backpacks Individual item pages and Armor Enhancement where eligible
Components Cloth and leather straps, bindings, and other tailored parts Crafting Component
Decorations and utility items Rugs, banners, cushions, beds, masks, and other recipe-specific goods Tailoring recipes
Equipment services Repair, salvage, and Tailoring masterwork upgrades Sections below

These families are navigation aids, not universal recipe rules. Some armor recipes require parts from another discipline, and decorative textiles do not necessarily inherit equipment bonuses.

Choosing components

The finished bonus depends on the exact component, not simply whether it is “cloth” or “leather.” The same material can record different effects when made into a bolt, strap, or binding.

Building Compare
Cloth light armor The exact cloth bolt and bindings accepted by the recipe
Leather light armor The exact leather and bindings accepted by the recipe
Cloak or backpack Named cloth, leather, straps, fasteners, and any slot-specific enhancement rules
Cross-discipline component The tailored strap or binding itself, because its effect may be inherited
Clothing or decoration The exact recipe; armor component rules may not apply

See Material Crafting Bonus for versioned comparisons and Armor Enhancement for how inherited materials, masterworking, enchanting, and socketing fit together.

Items

The following items have the effect of Tailoring:

The skill pages were last checked in different releases. Proficiency, Repair, and Salvage record Release 28; the masterwork skills record Release 31; and Tailoring Mastery records Release 78. Check current tooltips before relying on an old numerical effect.

Masterworking

Tailoring Masterwork Proficiency increases the recorded chance to successfully masterwork eligible equipment. Masterwork Cloth Armor Proficiency and Masterwork Leather Armor Proficiency unlock or improve choices for their material families, while Tailoring Mastery is recorded as improving the chance to revise effects.

The upgrade uses Masterwork Tailoring Upgrade. Effects depend on the equipment family and slot, and additional work can carry a durability cost. Backpacks and unusual wearables can have their own allowed choices, so consult the item page and Armor Enhancement. Crafted-gear behavior has changed over time, including exceptional-result changes in Release 89.[3]

Repair

Tailoring Repair Proficiency applies when repairing eligible Tailoring items at a Tailoring Station. Its record identifies Repair Kit - Tailoring for minor repairs and was last checked in Release 28. Ordinary durability and maximum durability are different; confirm the selected operation and its consumption. The repair-kit page's historical slot figures are not a current guarantee.

Salvage

Tailoring Salvage Proficiency supports breaking down eligible cloth and leather items at a Tailoring Station. Use Tailoring Scissors and confirm that Salvage is available before committing the item. Salvage destroys the source and does not promise to return every component, gem, jewel, or enhancement material. See Salvage Item.

Recipes

Main article: Tailoring recipes

The generated Tailoring recipes index is populated from recipe data on individual item pages. Edit the item or recipe record rather than manually adding a row. Recipes may be purchased, looted, awarded, or traded where applicable; their Discoverable, Teachable, or Re-Teachable status belongs to the individual record.

Version and verification

A lastseen release says when a wiki record was checked, not necessarily when it was introduced. Generated lists can mix records from widely separated releases. When testing Tailoring data, note the game release, station, tool, exact components, skill level, output, and finished tooltip.
