Expert Crafting Station

From Shroud of the Avatar Wiki - SotA

Expert Crafting Station

Expert stations use the same ten Production and Refining disciplines as standard stations.

An Expert Crafting Station is a placeable Crafting Station that adds +5 to its corresponding base crafting skill while an Avatar uses it. An Expert Alchemy Station supports Alchemy recipes, for example, while an Expert Smelting Station supports Smelting recipes.

The station bonus supplements the user's skill; it does not teach recipes, provide ingredients, replace required tools, or permanently raise the skill. The crafting interface remains the best place to confirm whether the resulting skill is sufficient for a particular recipe.

How the bonus works

Early descriptions called the affected value Crafting Proficiency. Release 50 removed Proficiency as a player-facing value and changed crafting requirements and bonuses to use Skill Level instead.[1] Accordingly, this page describes the Expert effect as +5 to the corresponding base crafting skill rather than preserving the retired Proficiency label.

The bonus applies only to the discipline served by that station and while that station is in use. It can improve the effective value reported for station-based crafting, but it does not make the station interchangeable with another discipline. Current recipe requirements and success information should be checked in the crafting interface; a later correction specifically addressed level requirements being displayed incorrectly at Expert stations.[2]

Agriculture belongs to the current Refining skill group but does not have a corresponding table in this ten-station family.

Standard and reward variants

Family Function Distinction
Standard station Provides access to the matching station-based discipline Does not provide the Expert +5 bonus
Expert station Provides the matching station function and +5 skill bonus Historically offered through premium-store selections and bundles
Founder or Benefactor Expert station Provides the Expert function for its matching discipline Visually distinct historical backer reward

Founder and Benefactor stations were distributed through the game's backer reward program.[3] Later Expert stations appeared in the Crown Store and in selectable packs.[4] Store inventories and bundle availability can change, so historical availability should not be read as a promise that a particular station is currently sold.

As decorations

Expert stations are decoration items as well as functional workspaces. Release 82 enabled decoration surfaces on Expert, standard merchant, Founder, and Benefactor station families, allowing suitable decorative objects to be placed on them.[4] Placement still follows the current decoration permissions and surface rules.

Choosing a station

For ordinary crafting, a standard station is sufficient when the Avatar already meets the recipe's requirements. An Expert station is useful when the +5 bonus helps with the relevant discipline or when its appearance suits a workshop. Neither station type changes which ingredients, tools, or recipe knowledge the craft requires.

Public crafting areas and player towns may provide stations visitors can use. Check the individual station and location pages for recorded availability; ownership is not required when an accessible station is already available in the world.
