Fishing
The goal with fishing is to give players that same feeling they had fishing in Ultima Online. Fishing will work in any area where the water is deep enough to swim.
To fish, you need bait in your inventory and your fishing pole equipped (each cast uses 1 bait). You then use your “Cast” ability to send the bait/hook/bobber to a selected target in the water (similar to how we target spells like Fireball). As soon as you cast your line, a timer starts and while that timer runs you have a chance to catch a fish (or maybe a boot!). If the timer runs out before you catch anything you have to recast.[1]
Here’s a list of some of what Fishing includes:
- 4 Different Water Types: Fresh, Salt, Fetid (Swamp, Dungeon, Sewer), and LAVA!!!!
- Fish: Multiple fish types to go with each water type, including more rare and fantastical fish (rainbow trout that have actual rainbow coloring).
- Loot: Random loot can be acquired by fishing.
- Bait and Lure Types: Different lures/baits work better/worse with different water types and for catching different fish. Gems are the only lure that works in Lava.
- Bait as Active Skill: To use all the different bait types, these are active skills.
- Trophy Data: You have a chance to catch a “trophy fish” that will have extra data on it including information like Weight, Who Caught, When Caught, etc. The fish will also be scaled based on this trophy data.
- Recipes: Recipes to clean and filet the fish, for creating trophies, and for cooking.
- Group and Social Bonuses: Randomly selected Player Owned Towns with water will get a short fishing bonus, as well as an experience bonus for fishing while grouped.
- Fishing Leaderboards: Fishing, including trophy fishing information, is available on the Leaderboards.[2]
