Configuration and troubleshooting
POIS stores its points and preferences in the game's saved variables. Its Settings window controls how world labels appear; most problems can be narrowed down by checking the active scene, filters, dependencies, and add-on state.[1]
Version 1.23.0 adds Show Points on Map, enabled by default. Turn it off to keep POIS labels and tracking while suppressing its region-map and minimap markers. The setting does not override an individual point's own Show flag, and POIS always suppresses these markers in PvP scenes.[1]
Settings
| Setting | Meaning | Default |
|---|---|---|
| View distance | Maximum straight-line distance at which world labels are drawn; 0 removes the limit
|
0
|
| Label scale | Base size of point labels | 1
|
| Height offset | Vertical offset applied to the saved point position | 2
|
| Default color | Initial color for newly added points | Package default |
| Show Distance on Labels | Adds live distance to the in-world label; the main-list distance column is always shown | Off |
POIS saves changes rather than requiring a manual configuration-file edit. Window positions are managed by the game UI. The tray also remembers whether it was collapsed.[1]
A point or label is missing
- Confirm that the character is in the scene where the point was recorded. Points are scene-specific.
- Clear the search box and color filters in the main window.
- Switch the point On, or use All On.
- Check View distance. A nonzero value hides labels beyond that range.
- If it is a library point, confirm that the library, POIS, and SES are all installed and enabled.
- If a crowded list stops at 30 rows, narrow it with search or color filters.
Tracking temporarily forces a selected point visible. If the tracking window closed during a scene change, select the points again in the new scene.
POIS does not start
POIS 1.23.0 requires add-on API 30 and SES. Open /addons and confirm that both packages are installed and Run is enabled. Newly installed packages begin disabled. Update the game client and both packages when the manager reports a dependency or API mismatch.[2]
Use /lua check to report package problems. After changing manually installed files, use /lua reload. Console errors are labelled with the add-on that produced them; include the exact message, POIS version, game build, and reproduction steps when asking in the POIS support thread.
Import or export fails
Copy the entire encoded string between the POIS Export Output and Import windows. Do not paste it through chat, which has a shorter input limit. If import rejects the string, obtain a fresh export and avoid adding spaces, line breaks, or surrounding quotation marks. POIS uses local text exchange and requests no Internet permission.[1]
Backups and recovery
Removing a Community Addons package keeps its saved variables, so reinstalling normally restores settings and points.[2] Before testing resets or editing saved data by hand, close or unload add-ons and make a copy of the game's Lua data. Do not delete saved variables as a routine troubleshooting step: that can discard the user's point collection.
