Add-ons/Buff Monitor System (BMS)/Configuration and troubleshooting

From Shroud of the Avatar Wiki - SotA

Configuration and troubleshooting

BMS stores global and per-monitor choices in the game's saved variables. Version 5.9.58 requires Lua API 21 and SES, and requests no Internet permission.[1]

Global settings

Setting Purpose
Hide Timeout How long an inactive indicator may remain before hiding
Warn/Severe Threshold Default remaining fractions for the two urgency states
Enable/Disable Key Key combined with Right Alt to open or close configuration
Icon Scale Global icon size from 0.5 to 3
Sound Volume / Disable Sound Overall alert volume or mute
Tooltip Delay Hover delay from 0 to 2 seconds; 0 disables tooltips
HUD Icons / offsets Native HUD-frame mode and global position nudges; reload required
Disable UI Turns off the display while leaving event processing available

Skill Settings supplies per-monitor overrides. Leaving an override Off inherits the global value.

An icon is missing

  1. Confirm the monitor is On and the relevant buff, pet, health condition, or opportunity is actually active.
  2. Close the configuration window; live indicators are intentionally hidden while it is open.
  3. Check whether an active UI Stack moved the icon into a grouped row or column.
  4. Use the monitor's reset, then the two-click global position reset if needed.
  5. If native HUD grips are locked, clear the game's status-bar movement lock.

BMS does not load

  1. In /addons, enable both BMS and SES.
  2. Confirm the client supplies Lua API 21 or later.
  3. Use /lua check, then /lua reload after correcting package files.
  4. Include BMS- or SES-labelled errors when reporting the problem.

Combat opportunity alerts depend on the game's structured combat feed. Ordinary buff monitors depend on SES buff and pet-buff events. Testing one category helps distinguish an event-source problem from a display setting.

Old settings and backups

On first use after an older loose-file installation, BMS imports bms/monitors.ini and bms/user.ini into saved variables and renames the old files with .imported. If a rename fails, BMS warns that the remaining file will be imported again on each reload and may overwrite later in-game changes.[1]

Removing a catalog package normally preserves its saved variables.[2] Avoid deleting saved data during routine troubleshooting. Keep the .imported files as migration backups until the new settings have been verified.
