Installation and diagnostics
The SotA Event System is infrastructure used by other add-ons. It has no ordinary settings window: a successful installation announces that SES is ready and enabled, then works in the background.[1]
Install and enable
- Install SES through
/addons. Installing BMS, FXStop, POIS, or PQS should also install it as a dependency. - Enable Run for SES and every dependent package. Newly installed packages begin disabled.[2]
- Use
/lua reloadafter changing a hand-installed package. - Look for the SES Ready and Enabled messages in the Lua console.
SES has no dependencies, requests no permissions, and does not contact the Internet.
A dependent add-on does not start
- Open
/addonsand confirm that SES is installed and running before checking the dependent add-on. - Use
/lua checkto find missing dependencies, misplaced files, or manifest problems. - Update SES and the dependent package together; an add-on may rely on events added in a newer SES release even though SES itself can load on API 1.
- Inspect errors labelled with SES or the dependent add-on. SES isolates subscriber failures and reports the event name, so one broken callback should not prevent later callbacks from running.[1]
Do not install a second loose copy of sota_event_system.lua beside the catalog package. All enabled add-ons share a Lua environment, so duplicate definitions can produce version-order surprises.
Timing expectations
Native callbacks such as combat events are relayed when the game calls them. Synthesized state changes are normally sampled every half-second; sound state is sampled every tenth of a second. SES polls a synthesized area only while something subscribes to it, and staggers those checks to avoid putting them all on one frame.[1] These are observations, not a real-time automation guarantee.
Reporting a problem
Include the SES version, game build, dependent add-on and version, exact labelled error, and minimal reproduction steps in the SES support thread. Developers should also name the subscribed event and whether replay or ordering options were used.
