Release 151

From Shroud of the Avatar Wiki - SotA

RELEASE 151, June 29, 2026

Release 151 went live on June 29, 2026, at 10:30 a.m. CDT. It brought two new dog spawners and matching decoration pets to animal-loving decorators, upgraded two player-owned towns, and continued the long campaign against cracks, rocks, and stairways capable of swallowing an incautious Avatar.[1]

The official launch notes contain 25 entries across crafting, combat, interface, world, and player-owned town work. This is a count of published entries, not a claim that 25 bugs were fixed: some entries introduce content, and several cover more than one scene.[1]

At a glance

Area What changed
Pets and decoration Husky and Shepherd Mutt spawners with bones joined pet merchants, alongside matching decoration pets.
World polish Fourteen of the seventeen world entries repaired stuck spots across Novia, with another correcting misplaced scenery.
Seasonal encounters The Luminous Atavist was scheduled to retreat on July 16, allowing Pumpkin Head to resume haunting Drachvald.
Player-owned towns New Crafters Town advanced to Municipality and Obsidian Caverns advanced to Town.
Rewards and events Garden furnishings and birthday candles formed the subscriber package, with July fireworks and cake for the general login reward.

Two more good dogs

A Shepherd Mutt and Husky Mutt with a gustball. R151 added spawners with bones and matching decoration pets.

Pet merchants everywhere gained Animal Spawners for the Husky Mutt with Bone and Shepherd Mutt with Bone. Matching Husky and Shepherd Mutt decoration pets arrived at the same time, letting a property owner choose between a spawned animal and a stationary decorative companion.[1]

This was the release's clearest new playable content. The launch announcement later paired it with additional Crown Store dog spawners, pet beds, and pet bowls, but those store additions should not be confused with the two merchant additions listed in the gameplay notes.

The other crafting-and-decoration entry expanded the resizing range of the Epic Palm Tree. Its store description was also corrected to say that it can fit on a village lot.[1]

A cautious combat fix

R151 contained one combat-and-skill entry: a possible fix for the confusion field created by purple mushrooms.[1] The official notes themselves qualify the result with “maybe,” so the release cannot be treated as definitive proof that every version of the problem disappeared. It was an attempted correction, not a newly documented skill mechanic.

Interface and account cleanup

Players banned from a player-owned town received revised server messaging when they attempted to enter it. The display name for the 120-month subscription title was corrected, and blurry Crown Store thumbnails for Obsidian potions were repaired.[1]

These three changes were small, but each addressed a place where the interface could misrepresent the underlying state: access permission, an earned title, or the item being offered.

Fewer traps in the scenery

World maintenance made up most of the launch notes. Stuck spots were repaired in Ardoris, Aerie, Blood Bay, Blood River, Blood River Massacre, Blood River Forest, Central Brittany, Despair, Myrkur, Equitas Passage, Highvale, the Battle of Highvale, Jaanaford, Necropolis Barrens, Resolute Sewers, South Midmaer Way, Lamech's Bazaar, and South Varisalla Foothills.[1]

The individual remedies varied. Some gaps were blocked with rocks, while collision was removed from a troublesome tree in Blood Bay. The Necropolis Barrens received two fixes, and shared scene work covered paired locations such as Highvale and its battle version. Tartarus also had floating rocks moved into the nearby angled ceiling, a visual repair rather than another stuck-spot correction.[1]

Owl's Nest received the one quest-facing adjustment in this group: the Wolf keeps its Undead Reaver title after the player unlocks the character's personal name.[1] It is a small continuity improvement, preserving useful context instead of replacing one identity with the other.

Seasonal trouble changes shifts

The Luminous Atavist was scheduled to withdraw on July 16, after which Pumpkin Head would resume terrorizing Drachvald.[1] This entry describes the planned seasonal handoff published with R151 rather than a permanent redesign of either encounter.

The timing also placed the transition immediately before the July 17 Lord British birthday livestream. R151's event calendar leaned heavily into the birthday, but Pumpkin Head apparently declined to respect the festivities.

Two towns grow

New Crafters Town was upgraded to Municipality, while Obsidian Caverns was upgraded to Town.[1] These were the only player-owned town changes in the R151 gameplay notes, and neither entry announced a relocation or template replacement.

Gardens, candles, and birthday cake

The pine Garden Bower, one of three styles offered with the R151 subscriber rewards.

Subscribers who logged in during R151 received their choice of one Garden Bower, two Garden Urns with Ferns, and an eight-pack of assorted Birthday Candles. The bower choices were pine, elven, and white styles.[1]

July's general account login reward was a birthday assortment: three each of aqua rockets, aqua pinwheels, yellow rockets, and yellow pinwheels, plus six each of aqua sparklers, yellow sparklers, and slices of Lord British birthday cake.[1] These were time-limited login rewards, not additions to ordinary creature loot or merchant inventories.

A comet passes over the birthday cake in Castle Atos ahead of the July celebration.

The launch announcement scheduled a four-hour birthday livestream for July 17 with Richard “Lord British” Garriott and members of the development team. A commemorative sale ran from June 29 through July 10, and the Crown Store received the 2026 replenishing birthday cake, colored candle packs, more dog spawners, garden furnishings, and pet accessories.[1] These dates and offers are preserved as release history rather than current availability.

What returning players should know

  • Pet merchants sell the two new mutt spawners with bones and their matching decoration pets.
  • New Crafters Town and Obsidian Caverns have larger town classifications.
  • The seasonal Atavist encounter was due to yield to Pumpkin Head on July 16.
  • The purple-mushroom confusion-field fix was explicitly tentative in the official notes.
  • Most of R151 is maintenance: returning explorers should mainly notice fewer places where movement fails.

R151 by the numbers

Number Meaning
25 Entries in the five official gameplay-note sections
2 Crafting, decoration, gear, and inventory entries
1 Combat and skill entry
3 Interface, store-information, Inky, and Lua entries
17 World and quest entries
2 Player-owned town entries

Development context

Catnip's work logs around the end of June include substantial engineering, interface, and future-release work beyond the compact R151 launch list.[2] Those logs provide useful context, but a nearby timestamp does not establish that a change shipped in R151. This article therefore treats the official launch announcement as its completeness baseline and excludes later work unless it is explicitly identified there as live.
