Release 148

From Shroud of the Avatar Wiki - SotA

RELEASE 148, March 30, 2026

Release 148 went live on March 30, 2026, at 10:30 a.m. CDT. It made tea plants fully usable across planting containers, turned grapes into food and decorations, improved several player-owned dungeon rooms, and changed how trees were placed across many player-owned town templates. It also prepared Mount Midir for the sixth annual in-game egg hunt.[1]

The official launch notes contain 32 entries across crafting, combat, interface, world, town, dungeon, and basement work. This is a count of published entries rather than bugs fixed; several entries cover multiple templates or related changes.[1]

At a glance

Area What changed
Agriculture and decoration Tea plants worked in all beds and pots, grapes became edible decorations, and fireplaces, animal spawners, and several dyeable items were cleaned up.
Player-owned towns Obsidian Caverns joined Novia, while trees across seven template entries moved onto removable terrain layers.
Dungeons and basements The Hilt spider room and several navigation meshes were rebuilt or completed.
Interface and world Background tooltips stopped appearing, merchants and conversations were repaired, and New Britannia's waters returned to normal.
Community event The sixth annual egg hunt was scheduled in three April 11 windows at Mount Midir.

Tea, grapes, and tidier decoration

Immature and mature tea plants displayed in several planting pots.

Immature and mature Tea Plants could now be crafted into every planting-bed and pot variant. Their mesh normals were reversed so sunlight reached the tops of the leaves correctly.[1] Both red and green grapes became placeable decorations as well as edible food, expanding their use beyond recipe ingredients.

Existing fireplace and chimney sets received improved placement behavior. Macabre and Fancy Doll Cabinets gained distance culling, animal spawners received better spawn locations, and carrot-based spawners used better-proportioned carrots. Ordinary carrot decorations also gained a wider player-scaling range.[1]

Several item-data annoyances were removed. The Ancient Sextant stopped consuming a Teleport to Zone Scroll, the giant brown rabbit spawner's spawning problem was corrected, and unusable dye slots disappeared from the Witch Hat and dyeable boiled eggs. Blue artifacts were removed from the Ornate Floral Kimono's dye slots, while older monthly fishing cloaks received small naming revisions.[1]

Combat and interface clarity

NPC Ring of Fire visuals were updated in the release's sole combat-and-skill entry.[1] The launch notes do not describe a numerical balance change, so this is best understood as presentation work.

Tooltips stopped activating when the game lacked focus or when the pointer was outside the game window. The Large Crafting Woodcut Pack also received a corrected store-shelf name.[1] Together, these changes reduced misleading interface reactions without altering core controls.

World and conversation repairs

New Britannia's waters returned to normal after the preceding seasonal state—“normal” being sensibly qualified by the announcement itself.[1] Shandy's merchant cart returned to the Forest 01 Road Encounter, and Quinn at Ferig's Battle Camp gained wine crates plus a corrected greeting.

Emma the Barmaid in Soltown could no longer have her conversation skipped directly to the vendor menu during a particular quest step. Vikland replaced an error-producing wall painting with a world map.[1] These were compact fixes, but they restored the intended order of dialogue and scenery.

Towns with more removable trees

The R148 map of player-owned towns in Novia, including the new Obsidian Caverns holdfast.

Obsidian Caverns was added as a Holdfast north of the Obsidian Trials in Novia, and Rajazel received an updated loading screen.[1]

The larger town-system change affected Forest 01, Forest 02, Mountain 01, Swamp Island 01, and Tropical Island 01 template families. Hand-placed trees were replaced with trees painted onto the terrain layer, allowing them to be removed when objects such as tree removers were placed.[1] For governors and decorators, this meant fewer immovable trunks dictating a settlement's layout.

Dungeon foundations repaired

The Hilt Basement Spider Encounter Room was rebuilt to correct placement failures, reconstruct its navigation mesh, and repair Spider Totem textures. Navigation meshes were rebuilt for the Ancient Stone Hall L and T intersections, while the Lava Lake Dungeon Room received a navigation mesh.[1]

The Portrait of a Bloody Ghoul also had its placement corrected throughout player-dungeon halls and rooms. These changes focused on making existing rooms connect, navigate, and decorate as intended rather than adding a new dungeon theme.

The Mount Midir egg hunt

The route out of Mount Midir becomes considerably busier during the annual egg hunt.

The sixth annual in-game egg hunt was announced for April 11 at Mount Midir, with event windows at 9 a.m., 3 p.m., and 9 p.m. CDT.[1] The announcement recommended jump potions, Frogkin rings, and Boom Bunny equipment, and warned participants to expect resistance as well as hidden eggs.

This was a scheduled community event rather than a permanent R148 system. Its three sessions were intended to make the event accessible across time zones.

Rewards and release events

Subscribers logging in during R148 received a Blue Spring Fountain with Floating Candles and their choice of a pair of dyeable Gothic or Dark Gothic Curule Armchairs. The general April login reward was a Spring Floral Still Life Desktop Painting.[1] Related spring, rabbit, fireplace, and furnishing items appeared in the Crown Store on announced schedules.

The post-release livestream was scheduled for April 3. These rewards, events, and store dates are historical launch information rather than current availability.[1]

What returning players should know

  • Tea plants now work across all planting-bed and pot variants.
  • Red and green grapes can be eaten or placed as decorations.
  • Obsidian Caverns appears north of the Obsidian Trials.
  • Several POT templates now use terrain-painted trees that respond to tree removers.
  • The Hilt spider encounter room and key dungeon navigation meshes received substantial repairs.
  • The Ancient Sextant no longer consumes a Teleport to Zone Scroll.

Research boundary

The official launch announcement is the completeness baseline for R148. Later patches and nearby development work are excluded unless that announcement identifies them as live on March 30.
