Release 147

From Shroud of the Avatar Wiki - SotA

RELEASE 147, February 23, 2026

Release 147 went live on February 23, 2026, at 10:30 a.m. CST. Its largest policy change permanently removed the Vault from the Crown Store and retired its catalog, while preserving already purchased Vault Edition items. In the game, R147 expanded chicken-themed decoration and crafting, made Earth's Embrace survive scene changes, and delivered a compact set of interface, world, town, and dungeon fixes.[1]

The official patch-note sections contain 20 entries. This is a count of published entries rather than bugs fixed, and it does not include the announcement's longer Vault, infrastructure, or Ultra-Rare discussions.[1]

At a glance

Area What changed
Crown Store policy The Vault was removed permanently; existing Vault Edition items remained in game, while future rarity categories received clearer distribution rules.
Crafting and decoration Existing chickens became Red Chickens, a matching decoration pet and four coop recipes arrived, and several fountains, cabinets, pools, and rare-item descriptions were repaired.
Combat Earth's Embrace began persisting across scene loads.
Towns and dungeons Avallon and Saxon's Landing were upgraded, and several player-dungeon totem icons were corrected.
Seasonal world The Envy Angel was scheduled to retreat and the Arch Lapin to return on March 16.

The Vault closes for good

R147 removed the Vault section from the Crown Store and retired its contents. Items players had already purchased remained in game and kept their Vault Edition indicator.[1] The accompanying policy explanation framed the Vault as incompatible with the newer rarity system because it resold versions of rewards that had originally carried limited-availability associations.

The announcement distinguished the old Player Rewards program from the later Subscriber Program. It stated that current subscriber items retain a short exclusivity period before entering the ordinary Crown Store, rather than permanent rarity. By contrast, items designated Rare, Very Rare, or Ultra-Rare were to carry provenance text and remain limited to their originally defined distribution method.[1]

This was not a deletion of owned objects or a blanket promise that every historic variant would be unique. It was a catalog and policy change: the Vault stopped offering its retired selection, existing copies remained, and future rarity labels gained written boundaries.

Wine cabinets and a collectible future

The Large and Small Vintage Wine Cabinets with their first bottle set.

The release announcement paired the Vault closure with an Ultra-Rare offer for Large and Small Vintage Wine Cabinets, eight wine bottles, and a non-rare carrying crate. The cabinets and bottles were promotional bonus items tied to qualifying COTO packs through March 6.[1]

More importantly for future content, the offer was described as funding a collectible series of regional wine bottles. Planned bottles would represent locations around New Britannia and appear through varied in-game sources, with some deliberately scarce. A future wine rack was intended to provide organized storage. These later bottles and the rack were plans rather than R147 launch features, so they are not presented here as already available.

A proper home for the chickens

The Red Chicken Decoration Pet added to pet merchants in R147.

All existing chickens, wild and spawned, were renamed Red Chickens. Pet merchants gained a matching Red Chicken Decoration Pet, while decoration merchants on Elysium received four recipes for chicken coops and feeder troughs.[1] Hay piles gained additional resizing range to fit inside coops, and water troughs became stackable in inventory.

Chicken coops, feeder troughs, hay, and water troughs assembled into a farmyard display.

Other decoration work repaired repeated dolls in cabinets on the same lot, rebuilt the craftable Large Fountain to correct a level-of-detail problem, and restricted Wicker Tray bindings to plain maple and pine so valuable materials would not be consumed accidentally. The three Rectangular Stone Lava Pools gained descriptions and developer notes, while several Ultra-Rare objects received missing or corrected descriptions.[1]

A buff that survives the doorway

Earth's Embrace began persisting across scene loads.[1] This was the only combat-and-skill entry, but it removed a practical interruption for characters relying on the buff while traveling between scenes.

The interface section retired Vault and Rare wording from affected store categories, corrected the icon for the book Lord British Sings Work Songs, and replaced an incorrect blacksmithing woodcut on the alchemy section of the recipe book with the proper alchemy image.[1]

World, towns, and dungeon icons

The Envy Angel was scheduled to go dormant and the Arch Lapin to return on March 16.[1] In Aerie, the mage shop stopped allowing players outside the building to interact with objects inside.

Two player-owned towns grew: Avallon was upgraded to City and Saxon's Landing to Metropolis.[1] Player-dungeon totem icons were updated for trolls, spiders, and one stray kobold, making their representations consistent with the creatures they summon.

Infrastructure work

The announcement also reported the removal of two more physical servers from the data-center footprint as virtualization and consolidation continued. Another planned server was expected to improve build times and overall performance.[1] These were operational improvements rather than a promised frame-rate increase for every player, so the article does not turn them into client-performance claims.

Rewards and release events

Subscribers who logged in during R147 received a Cinereous Mossy Stone Fountain, a Grey Chicken Decoration Pet, and their choice of one Large Crafting Woodcut. The general March login reward was a Nest with Eggs.[1]

The post-release livestream was scheduled for February 27, and the announcement included release-period sales and bonuses.[1] These dates and offers are retained as historical information rather than current availability.

What returning players should know

  • The Crown Store Vault is gone, but previously purchased Vault Edition items remain.
  • Rare, Very Rare, and Ultra-Rare labels now describe protected distribution categories rather than a rotating Vault catalog.
  • Existing chickens are called Red Chickens; pet and decoration merchants offer the new related pet and coop recipes.
  • Earth's Embrace persists when changing scenes.
  • Avallon and Saxon's Landing have larger town classifications.
  • Planned regional wine collectibles and their storage rack were not yet launch-day features.

Research boundary

The official launch announcement is the completeness baseline for R147. Later patches and future plans described in that announcement are excluded from the launch build unless explicitly identified as live.
