Add-ons/Point of Interest System (POIS)/Tracking and beacons

From Shroud of the Avatar Wiki - SotA

Tracking and beacons

POIS can keep a compact live readout for selected points in the current scene. Each row shows the point's color and name, rounded distance, compass direction, vertical direction when applicable, and a map-beacon control.[1]

Track points

  1. Open POIS with /pois and select Track.
  2. Choose the current scene's points. Select All and Select None handle the whole displayed list.
  3. Select Track Selected.

The Tracked Points window updates distance and direction about once per second. A tracked point's world label remains visible while the window is open, even if that point was previously switched off. Opening the selector again starts with a fresh selection rather than preserving the last set.

Tracking is scene-specific. Changing scenes closes the tracked readout, forgets the tracked set, and clears the associated beacon. Up to 30 tracked rows can be displayed.

Use a beacon

When tracking begins, POIS places the game's map beacon on the first selected point in alphabetical order. Select Beacon beside another row to move it, or Clear beside the active row to remove it.

POIS watches the shared map-beacon state. If another game feature or add-on replaces or clears that beacon, if the character arrives, or if the scene changes, POIS updates its controls rather than continuing to claim the old beacon is active.[1]

Reading the direction

The readout uses a 16-point compass direction, such as N, NNE, or SW. An up or down indicator is added when the destination is meaningfully above or below the character. Distance is straight-line distance to the saved three-dimensional position, so terrain and walkable paths may make the actual journey longer.
