Release 143

From Shroud of the Avatar Wiki - SotA

RELEASE 143, October 27, 2025

Release 143 went live on October 27, 2025, at 10:30 a.m. CDT. It restored the voices and interaction behavior of haunted dolls, added a bobbing-for-apples decoration recipe, repaired a broken wave battle and numerous stuck spots, upgraded two player-owned towns, and made Castle Atos behave properly as a POT.[1]

The official launch notes contain 28 entries across crafting, interface, world, quest, town, dungeon, and basement work. That is a count of published entries rather than bugs fixed and does not include the announcement's Doll Display Case preview or infrastructure discussion.[1]

At a glance

Area What changed
Haunted dolls and decoration Doll audio and interaction returned, a Tub of Floating Apples recipe arrived, and teleporter and cornucopia presentation improved.
World and quests Krampus received a return date, a broken expedition-camp wave battle was repaired, and numerous dialogue, collision, and stuck-spot issues were corrected.
Player-owned towns Castle Atos received proper POT behavior, while Cassiopeia and Lightbringer Retreat were upgraded.
Player-owned dungeons The Blackblade Pass Lava Grotto stopped applying fire damage outside the actual lava.
Technical foundation The build environment incorporated Unity's security patcher; planned server migrations were postponed to avoid combining risks.

Haunted dolls find their voices

Haunted dolls could once again be heard, and their triggers and selection behavior were improved so players could activate or pick them up more reliably.[1] Some dolls also received revised sounds or animations. This repair was immediately useful even though the larger display system announced alongside it had not yet shipped.

The Macabre Doll Display Case previewed during R143; cabinet delivery was planned for a later release.

The announcement previewed Macabre and Fancy Doll Display Cases, each intended to display one in-game doll through technology related to the aquarium system. A third unlocked display case was planned for ordinary objects. Ultra-Rare doll purchasers were promised a Macabre case when their bonus dolls were delivered closer to R144.[1]

Those cabinets are important context, but they were not R143 launch content. Their final feature set was still being developed, and the announcement placed their store and mail delivery after the initial sale period.

Apples, cushions, and repaired teleporters

The Tub of Floating Apples, whose recipe arrived at Verdantis decoration merchants.

Decoration merchants in Verdantis gained a recipe for a Tub of Floating Apples. Large and Large Ornate Cushions received a wider scaling range, making them more practical for displays—including the ordinary Fine Display Case already available in game.[1]

The Fall and Lost Vale teleporters were cured of their conspicuous “Big Blue Box Disease,” while several older cornucopias gained distance culling.[1] These changes reduced visual errors and unnecessary long-distance rendering without changing the destinations or functions of the affected objects.

Store metadata received its own cleanup. Resurrection Ankhs and Chaoses had their descriptions updated to list valid placement in lots, basements, player dungeons, and player-owned towns. Open Book Patterns, Gothic Wall Mirrors, and 2025 Halloween Gift Boxes were moved or renamed correctly on store shelves.[1]

Krampus takes the winter shift

Pumpkin Head was scheduled to finish terrorizing Drachvald, with Krampus returning to East Sanctus Forest and selected Snowy Mountain Road Encounters on November 16.[1] The date describes a seasonal handoff rather than a permanent replacement.

The Kobold Expeditionary Camp received corrected quest compass markers and a fix for a wave battle that could fail to trigger. Elsewhere, Ardoris carpentry-shop sigil plaques were rotated flush with their walls, Aerie shield-wall collision was updated, and the Breach adopted the modern spelling of “Central Pavilion.”[1]

Dialogue and quest text were corrected for Torben in Harvest, Annora Jenkins in Port Harmony, and Grigor in Storms Reach. Port Harmony also lost an unintended collider beneath its lion-head canal spouts.[1]

Stuck spots were blocked or simplified in Equitas Passage, Middle Downs, Oracle Colossus, South Midmaer Way, Lamech's Bazaar, Snowy Mountain Road Encounter, and Troll's Bridge. Once again, strategically deployed rocks served both as the problem and the cure.

Towns and lava boundaries

Castle Atos was corrected so its unusual scene worked properly as a player-owned town. Cassiopeia advanced from Crossroads Village to Town, while Lightbringer Retreat rose from Village to Metropolis.[1]

In the Blackblade Pass Player Dungeon Lava Grotto, fire damage stopped affecting adventurers outside the actual lava.[1] Falling in remained hazardous—as lava traditionally insists—but poor navigation alone no longer deserved spontaneous combustion.

Patching the build pipeline

Unity had disclosed an exploit affecting applications built on Unity 2017.1 or later and supplied a patching tool. Although the development team stated that Shroud of the Avatar did not use the identified risky build options or directory arrangements, it patched the Unity build servers and incorporated verification into the build process.[1]

Planned Austin data-center server migrations were postponed to avoid stacking infrastructure risk on top of build-process changes. The announcement described staged future moves beginning with non-production roles such as QA, with maintenance windows to be announced for intrusive migrations.[1] This was security and operational work, not a claim that R143 delivered a new engine or an immediate universal performance increase.

Rewards and release events

The Fancy Wooden Podium, one of three styles available with the R143 subscriber reward choice.

Subscribers logging in during R143 received their choice of one Fancy Podium, one Autumn Street Lamp with Sign, and a 2025 Cornucopia. The general November login reward was the Juggle Apples emote.[1]

The post-release livestream was scheduled for November 7. The announcement also included autumn and macabre furnishings, display cases, garden furniture, and other Crown Store additions.[1] These dates and items are presented as release history rather than current availability.

What returning players should know

  • Haunted dolls once again produce audio and are easier to select or activate.
  • Doll Display Cases were previews and future deliveries, not R143 launch features.
  • The Kobold Expeditionary Camp wave battle and its compass markers were repaired.
  • Castle Atos now behaves properly as a POT; Cassiopeia and Lightbringer Retreat have larger classifications.
  • The Blackblade Pass Lava Grotto should only apply fire damage within its lava.
  • The Unity patcher was integrated defensively even though the team reported not using the configurations identified as vulnerable.

R143 by the numbers

Number Meaning
28 Entries in the five official patch-note sections
6 Crafting, decoration, gear, and inventory entries
4 Interface and store-information entries
14 World and quest entries
3 Player-owned town entries
1 Player-owned dungeon and basement entry

Research boundary

The official launch announcement is the completeness baseline for R143. Doll Cabinet delivery, Ultra-Rare doll delivery, and server migrations are kept separate from the launch build because the announcement assigns them to later work.
