Release 142

From Shroud of the Avatar Wiki - SotA

RELEASE 142, September 29, 2025

Release 142 went live on September 29, 2025, at 10:30 a.m. CDT. Its most substantial work rebuilt important parts of the Blackblade Lava Grotto player-dungeon room, bringing lava damage closer to the visible pools, improving decoration coverage and level-of-detail behavior, and correcting character depth in the lava. The release also refreshed forest terrain and tree materials, repaired encounters and travel behavior across Novia, and polished a broad collection of decorations.[1]

The official launch notes contain 38 entries across crafting, interface, world, quest, town, dungeon, and basement work. That number describes published entries rather than bugs fixed; several entries combine related systems or scenes.[1]

Blackblade's lava learns its boundaries

The Blackblade Lava Grotto Player Dungeon Room received revised lava-damage areas and adjusted swim depth. Earlier experiments with a single detailed trigger mesh failed because Unity required it to be convex, effectively turning it back into the oversized box that caused characters away from the pools to burn. The implemented approach used a mixture of spheres and cylinders to follow the curved lava more closely.[1]

Decoration placement moved to mesh-based floor, wall, and ceiling coverage. The announcement contrasts those three components with what could otherwise have required roughly twenty scripted box colliders. The room's level-of-detail configuration was rebuilt as well.[1]

The release also rebuilt the White Marble Ballroom so its entrance halls no longer intruded into adjacent dungeon rooms. The Blackblade room served as an early use of a decoration-mesh technique intended for other large rooms and newer houses, but the planned Lava Lake room and spawning lava-grotto variants remained future work.

Decoration fixes from bleachers to chandeliers

Regalis decoration merchants gained a recipe for flipped bleachers, and three broken seats on the existing craftable bleachers were repaired. Large mahi-mahi produced the correct fillets when efficient-refinement bonuses applied, while streamer bundles gained a small chance to contain reusable rather than static decorative containers.[1]

Collision and placement improved for the Tabletop Lich Statue and spruce trees. Rug texture settings were optimized, squirrel-statue LODs were adjusted, the single Virtue Balloon lost its conspicuous blue-box error, and ribbon LODs were repaired across many older gift boxes.[1]

Chandeliers became usable from more practical distances: standard versions could be activated from six meters, while Great Hall and Long Chain variants reached ten meters.[1] No household should need to requisition a ladder merely to turn off the lights.

The New You Pavilion NPC building received spelling consistent with other pavilion items. Book-group and Open Book Pattern shelf names were also clarified in the interface and store data.[1]

Clearer forests and sturdier encounters

Materials used for tree curtains were updated for the newer Unity version, with the published aim of improving their appearance. Forest terrain and tree textures were updated and optimized, making ground detail clearer in scenes such as Braemar.[1] These are published visual goals rather than promises that every hardware configuration produces identical results.

The Kobold Expeditionary Camp lost an object with a bad material and received adjusted multiplayer trigger volumes for its stone-circle wave battle. Kas Ruins had terrain and path-grid work near Riei Firefeather, while Obsidian Panopticon moved overlapping props and spawners and corrected Obsidian Elf Mage names.[1]

Grusk Factory's two elevators could be used repeatedly in both directions. Eastreach Gap moved an inaccessible resource node and added props to communicate the nearby collision boundary. Castle Atos adjusted its front stairs, while stuck spots were blocked in Northwest Blackblade Mountains, Shaminian Hills, and two locations in Solace Bridge Outskirts.[1]

Travel hints, dialogue, and small corrections

Return teleporters gained a hint explaining that they cannot return a traveler to a particular player dungeon or basement. Public vendors had redundant keyword logic cleaned up.[1]

Owl's Head stableboy Nob stopped handing out coconuts. Port Harmony corrected Peregrine's dialogue, Soltown regenerated Bentley's conversation data, and a floating jar of worms in Solace Bridge Outskirts returned to earth. Blackblade Pass also lowered the drop rate of lava-room recipes and blueprints.[1]

The Forest 01a POT template flattened two small bumps intended for lot placement. Because this was a template edit, it affected every town using Forest 01a rather than only Saxon's Landing, where the problem was reported.[1]

A mug that supports research

The Glowing Magic Mug added to the Breast Cancer Research Foundation charity section.

The web store's charity section added a Glowing Magic Mug supporting the Breast Cancer Research Foundation. The announcement states that Catnip Games donated 20 percent of the net purchase price of designated charity items and had collected more than $50,000 across supported charities at that time.[1] The figure is a historical statement from the launch announcement, not a current fundraising total.

Rewards and release events

Small, medium, and large Sunflower Patches, part of the R142 subscriber rewards.

Subscribers logging in during R142 received a Sunflower Patch Set, a Fancy Kitchen Sink II, and their choice of one Painted Magic Sigil Set. The general October login reward was a Dyeable Balloon.[1]

The post-release livestream was scheduled for October 2. The announcement also listed Halloween decorations, creature spawners, furnishings, balloons, sinks, and magic sigils arriving on announced store schedules.[1] These dates and offers are preserved as release history rather than current availability.

What returning players should know

  • Blackblade Lava Grotto decoration and lava coverage were rebuilt, but later lava-room projects remained future work.
  • Grusk Factory elevators should work repeatedly rather than becoming one-use journeys.
  • Return teleporters now explain their player-dungeon and basement limitation.
  • Forest scenes may show sharper ground and updated tree-curtain materials.
  • The Forest 01a terrain fix affects every POT using that template.
  • Standard and large chandeliers can be activated from substantially farther away.
