Release 137

From Shroud of the Avatar Wiki - SotA

RELEASE 137, April 25, 2025

Release 137 went live on April 25, 2025, at 10:30 a.m. CDT. Its launch build mixed a modest set of crafting and world fixes with several player-owned town changes and preparations for May's Aether creatures. The accompanying development update also outlined Birch Island, but that island and its planned locations were still in production rather than part of R137's playable content.[1]

The official launch notes contain 18 entries across crafting, interface, world, quest, and player-owned town work. Two world entries describe seasonal changes scheduled for May rather than features active on April 25.[1]

At a glance

Area What changed
Crafting and decoration Perennial Coast merchants gained a Log Seat recipe, the Virtue Balloon became visible when equipped, and an Adobe home's roof-access spawn point was corrected.
Seasonal encounters The notes scheduled the Luminous Atavist for May 16 and Aether Dragons, Liches, and Corpions for May 27.
World polish Template terrain, trees, dialogue, collision, and scene dressing received focused repairs.
Player-owned towns Eldermire was added, Saxon's Landing became a city, and three existing towns received ownership, biome, location, or siege-visual changes.
Future content Birch Island's Money Pit, Nolan Manor, and Well were described as development plans, not launch-day destinations.

Birch Island remained on the horizon

The R137 announcement gave a substantial progress report on Birch Island, an area inspired by Oak Island and its Money Pit stories. The development plan called for three locations: the Money Pit dungeon, Nolan Manor and its services and side quests, and a smaller cave dungeon called the Well.[1]

The island's bridge had been removed while its overworld geometry was revised. The planned dungeons were intended to connect with each other and the Novian underworld, with the Well likely to open first for QA testing.[1]

None of those locations was presented as live in R137. The update consistently used future language, and even the Well was only expected to reach QA “soon.” For returning players, Birch Island was a development roadmap, not a new April 25 travel destination.

A seat, a balloon, and a safer ladder

The Log Seat whose recipe was added to Perennial Coast housing-decoration merchants.

Housing-decoration merchants in the Perennial Coast gained a recipe for a Log Seat. The single Virtue Balloon became visible when equipped, and the book Truth is Rewarded had a typographical error corrected.[1]

The ladder-top spawn point in the Adobe with Roof Access village home was raised. This reduced the chance that a character arriving at the top would intersect the surrounding structure or emerge at an awkward height.[1]

Sacks of Wheat Grain were added to the available buy-order list, allowing players to request them through the relevant market interface.[1]

May's creatures announced in advance

Aether Dragons in the Blackblade Mountains, scheduled to awaken on May 27.

R137's world notes included two dated seasonal handoffs. The Arch Lapin was scheduled to go dormant and the Luminous Atavist to return on May 16. Aether Dragons, Aether Liches, and Aether Corpions were scheduled to awaken in their respective areas on May 27 as the two-tailed comet approached.[1]

Aether Tetras were expected a few days later, but the announcement gave no exact date. Because all of these changes were scheduled after April 25, this article records them as announcements made during R137 rather than launch-day activity.

Templates, trees, and scene details

The PRT Forest 01 template moved a tree beside a lot so it fell within the lot boundary and would disappear correctly when the lot changed. This affected Aldwater, Brekken Bay, Endurance, Forewind, Port Titan, and Taenby Landing.[1]

PRT Forest 02 and Grassland 01 templates had a pothole filled on a lot. The announcement identified Axwich, Dorwald, Fons Vita, Littlecreek, New Holtrot, Anseldale, Etan Glen, Greenfall, Magna Planitia, and Snell's Bend as affected settlements.[1]

Longfall Woods removed an unexpected switch near a puzzle. Outlaws in the Outlaws' Run changed their combat line from “Taste my steel!” to “You've made a big mistake!” Solace Bridge and the Battle of Solace Bridge gained cleaner terrain along the Lunar Rift path; horse remains were removed and replaced with a grave marker. Ulfheim improved collision on some giant redwoods.[1]

Player-owned towns on the move

The official R137 Novia map showing the player-owned-town changes.

Eldermire was added as a Swamp Island 01 Crossroads Village west of the Tower of the Shuttered Eye. Saxon's Landing was upgraded from Town to City.[1]

Arx Draconis Wetlands changed owner, adopted the Swamp Island 01 biome, and moved to a nearby shoreline. M'hul Island also changed owner. On the Hidden Vale, The Fields of Misery had its siege visuals corrected.[1]

These changes were administrative and map-facing rather than a single new adventure feature, but they mattered to residents and travelers relying on town location, size, or visual status.

Rewards and release events

Subscribers logging in during R137 received a Spring Gorsedd Stone Set and Yellow Tulip Patches. Every account logging in during May received a Vase of Yellow Tulips.[1]

The post-release community livestream was scheduled for later on April 25. The announcement documented an April 25–May 1 sale period and a launch-day Crown Store group centered on lava-fishing dungeon rooms, breakaway-wall hallways, pavers, and Lava Fish Thrones.[1] These dates and offers are historical rather than descriptions of current availability.

R137 by the numbers

Number Meaning
18 Entries in the four official patch-note sections
4 Crafting, decoration, gear, and inventory entries
1 Interface and store-information entry
8 World and quest entries, including two future-dated seasonal entries
5 Player-owned town entries

Research boundary

The official launch announcement is the completeness baseline for R137. Birch Island is treated as future development, while the May 16 and May 27 changes are labeled as scheduled after launch. Build 1778, published on April 26, is a later patch and is not folded into the launch article.[2]
