Add-ons/Toolbox/Menu and location

From Shroud of the Avatar Wiki - SotA

Toolbox provides a one-click menu, a location strip, and map tools for returning to useful locations. Version 1.8.0 expands those tools with named overlays, automatic resource mapping, and a last-death marker.[1]

The overlay, automatic-mapping, and last-death features were introduced in Toolbox 1.8.0 and are included in the current catalog package.

Toolbox menu

The menu is initially enabled as a vertical column of gold buttons on a shaded panel near the upper-left corner. Each button opens or closes one Toolbox feature, and remains bright while its window is open. Hovering a button displays its name and corresponding chat command. Version 1.9.0 can color the icons Gold, Red, Green, Blue, White, or Text, which follows the current UI skin.[1]

Available buttons can include:

  • XP and XP Detailed;
  • Today and the Loot Tracker;
  • Combat Detailed;
  • Notifications, showing current news in its window;
  • Location, which toggles the location strip;
  • Docs;
  • Settings.

Move the menu by its grip or by using the position controls under HUD layout. Its own settings are under Menu, setups, backup & reset. The menu may be displayed vertically or horizontally, given larger or smaller icons, assigned an icon color, placed over a lighter or darker panel, hidden during combat, and limited to selected buttons. At least one button must remain selected.[1]

Use /toolbox menu to report or change its state. Supported forms include on|off, vertical|horizontal, size <number>, shade <number>, color gold|red|green|blue|white|text, combat hide|show, and move <x> <y>. /toolbox launcher is an alias.

Turning the menu off does not disable its windows. They remain available from Toolbox settings and chat commands.

Location strip

The location strip is off by default. Enable it with the menu's Location button, Show where you are under Map & location, or /toolbox location on.

Its basic display includes:

  • the current scene;
  • the player's x, height, and z position as whole numbers, matching /loc;
  • facing as a compass direction and degrees, where 0 is north and 90 is east.

The display follows the player while moving. Hovering it shows the complete location line. Facing can be hidden independently with /toolbox location facing off.

On clients with Lua API 32, the strip can name the kinds of fishable water available in the scene, such as “Fishable water: salt, fresh.” Version 1.9.0 replaced the earlier nearest-water distance lookup because that lookup was slow. Use /toolbox location water on|off to control this line. Older clients continue to show the other supported location information.[2][1]

The location strip has its own Background shade setting. Like the other HUD strips, it starts at 60 percent in version 1.9.0; zero removes the panel while leaving the text solid.[1]

Move the strip from Map & location or with /toolbox location move <x> <y>.

Farming-run locations

Loot Tracker runs created by version 1.7.0 remember where the player spent most of the run. Older saved runs have no location data.

Hovering a run displays its saved spot. While in the same scene, press its Compass button to place the game's ordinary compass and map beacon at that location. The button was named Beacon before Toolbox 1.8.0. This replaces any beacon previously set by the player, just as another use of the game's beacon feature would.[1]

On clients with Lua API 30, saved runs in the current scene also appear as gold flags on the map and minimap. Hovering a flag shows the run's results. Disable these flags with Show runs on the map under Map & location.

The beacon and map flags are navigation aids; they do not move the character or preserve a location outside the scene recorded for the run.

Map overlays

Introduced in Toolbox 1.8.0. A scene may have named overlay sets containing colored circles, diamonds, squares, or triangles. One user overlay is displayed at a time on that scene's map and minimap; its places can also be selected for compass navigation. Toolbox supports up to ten user overlays per scene and 39 places per overlay.[3]

Open Map & location or use /toolbox overlay to create, select, rename, recolor, hide, or delete overlays. /toolbox mark adds the player's current position to the selected overlay. Overlay information is stored per character, and the overlay window reports how much of the saved-file allowance it uses.

Automatic resource mapping

Introduced in Toolbox 1.8.0. When automatic mapping is enabled, gathering a resource records its position in an overlay for that resource kind and in a combined Gathering overlay. Individual resource kinds may be ignored. Automatic overlays are managed separately from the selected user overlay, so a farming route and gathered-resource markers can appear together.[1]

Added in Toolbox 1.9.0. Automatic fight mapping can mark where the character or pet defeats a creature, both in an overlay named for that creature and in a combined Fights overlay. A nearby duplicate is not added again, and the same ignore list used for gathering kinds also applies to creature names. Automatic gathering and fight mapping default on in adventure scenes and off in towns, player towns, and basements unless changed for that scene.[4]

The location strip in 1.9.0 names the overlay currently shown and provides arrows for stepping through user, Gathering, resource-kind, Fights, and creature overlays. The full map also identifies Toolbox's active marker groups on clients with Lua API 40.[4]

Last-death marker

Introduced in Toolbox 1.8.0. When the character dies, Toolbox places a magenta diamond at the death location on the map and minimap. It can also point the game's compass there. The marker clears after returning to it or when it expires; /toolbox death reports or manages it.[3]

Client-version requirements

The Toolbox package still declares Lua API 25 as its overall minimum. Individual 1.7.0 features use later APIs when present:

Feature API Introduced in Toolbox
Farming-run map and minimap flags 30 1.7.0
Returning off-screen HUD strips to the visible area 31 1.7.0
Scene fishable-water types 32 1.7.0
User overlays, automatic maps, and last-death markers 30 1.8.0

When a later function is unavailable, Toolbox leaves out that portion rather than raising the package-wide minimum.[2]
