Update of the Avatar #44 – 2013.10.18: Crafting Sigil, Story, Manor Home, and Scene Jam Results

The Crafting Sigil displayed on the floor of a workshop.

Update 44 introduced the Crafting Sigil, continued Arabella's account of the Avatar's prophesied paths, revealed the Lord of the Manor City Home, expanded the early basement collection, and announced the second Unity Scene Jam's winners.[1]

Crafting Sigil

The sigil organized fifteen crafting skills into three rings. Gathering comprised Mining, Forestry, Agriculture, Field Dressing, and Foraging; Refining comprised Smelting, Milling, Textiles, Tanning, and Butchery; and Production comprised Blacksmithing, Carpentry, Tailoring, Cooking, and Alchemy. Moving from an inner ring toward the outside illustrated how gathered materials become refined components and then finished goods.[1]

Story and avatar art

The story preview had Arabella identify the player as a possible figure from the Dire Prophecies. She outlined three opening paths tied to Truth, Courage, and Love, while stressing that prophecy was guidance rather than a fixed outcome. This archive summarizes the passage rather than reproducing it.[1]

The issue also showed new cloth, leather, and plate outfits for male avatars and announced a merchandise store offering sigil shirts and two versions of a physical collector's coin.[1]

Lord of the Manor home and basements

The Lord of the Manor home was presented as a four-story, nine-room mansion with open-air decks on its first and fourth floors. Interior examples were decorated by Bill Kirkman, and the issue compared the building and its city lot with smaller Lord and village homes.[1]

New town-lot basements included a four-story Town Stone design and two- through five-story Town Stone & Timber Split-Level variants. The accompanying cutaway views demonstrated that their usable footprint occupied most of the lot below ground.[1]

Scene Jam #2

The second Scene Jam challenged entrants to create catacombs. Kevin Eslinger placed first, HasuKimchi second, and Melchior Meijer third. The update reported scores of 93, 90, and 88 for the three leading maps and announced that Scene Jam #3 was already underway.[1]
