Update of the Avatar #38 – 2013.09.11: Avatar Work, Edelmann House Poll, and Update Changes

Update 38 showed new combat animations and character-art work, invited backers to vote on an Edelmann house design, highlighted Tracy and Laura Hickman's Sojourner Tales campaign, and announced that future project updates would move from Kickstarter to the official Shroud of the Avatar website and email list.[1]

Avatar animation and clothing

Animator Bren Wilson demonstrated new axe and bow attacks for the revised male avatar. Character artist Geoff Mellon documented the accompanying leather-outfit overhaul, including sculpting, texture work, color controls, and anatomy corrections prompted by community feedback.[1]

Mellon also presented two cloth-outfit concepts for later modeling. Together, the sections provided an early look at how interchangeable character parts, equipment, animation, and community review were feeding into the avatar pipeline.[1]

Edelmann house poll

The Edelmann pledge rewards promised a German-style house selected with community input. Senior environmental artist Bob Cooksey prepared a recommended design, and the update directed backers to a forum poll where it could be compared with alternatives.[1]

Community and communication

The issue promoted Sojourner Tales, a story-driven strategy board game by Tracy and Laura Hickman. More importantly for the archive itself, Portalarium announced that project updates would no longer be duplicated on Kickstarter. New issues would instead appear on the official website, with email copies sent to Kickstarter backers through Mailchimp.[1]
