This page records maintenance on sotawiki.org: software updates, downtime, and changes that affect how the wiki looks or behaves. Newest entries are at the top. All times are UTC.

• If something broke or looks different after an update, say so on the talk page.
• Planned downtime is also announced in the banner at the top of every page a day or so ahead.

Upcoming

MediaWiki 1.43.10 (security release)

Date to be announced once Wikimedia publishes it. The wiki will show a maintenance page for a few minutes while the update is applied. No visible changes are expected.

2026

1 October

• Text in code formatting was black on a dark grey background, so it was almost impossible to read. It now shows light text on a grey box, like code blocks and tables. This had been wrong since the move.

30 September

• Semantic MediaWiki updated 7.3.0 → 7.3.1 (security fix). TabberNeue (the tabs extension) received minor fixes.
• No downtime, and no visible changes.

21 September

• Heavy automated crawlers, mostly AI training bots, are now limited to 30 page requests per minute. Above that they get "429 Too Many Requests". Normal browsing isn't affected. If you run a tool or bot against the wiki and it's being throttled, ask on the talk page.

20 September

• The wiki is now open to search engines. A sitemap was published so Google and others can index all of its pages. Search results may take a few weeks to show up.
• www.sotawiki.org now redirects to sotawiki.org, so every page has one address.
• The Main Page title is hidden again. Template:Notitle had stopped working after the move because the newer skin overrode it.
• Extensions updated: Semantic MediaWiki 7.3.0, Semantic Result Formats 6.0.0, Page Forms 6.0.11. The wiki was read-only for a few minutes while they were updated.

11 August

• sotawiki.org announced on the Shroud of the Avatar forums.
• Account reclaim opened. If you edited the old wiki, you can claim your account here at Special:MigrateUserAccount. The forum post has step-by-step instructions.

5 August

• The copy from sotawiki.net is complete: 38,421 pages with their full edit history, and all 12,700 uploaded files with their original uploaders credited. Content stays under the same licence, CC BY 3.0.
• The wiki now runs MediaWiki 1.43 LTS, which is supported with security updates until December 2027. sotawiki.net was on an end-of-life 2020 release.
• The interactive maps now load their map tiles from this site instead of an outside server.
• Old links keep working if you change the domain: sotawiki.net/sota/Page_name → sotawiki.org/sota/Page_name.
