Update of the Avatar #46 – 2013.11.01: Six-Month Progress, Story Preview, and Founder Rewards
Update 46 marked six months of development with a narrated progress tour, continued the early story preview with the path of Love, revealed the Founder Adventurer Starter Shield and Fishing Pole of Prosperity, and closed the special Recruit-a-Friend promotion.[1]
Six-month progress video
Richard “Lord British” Garriott narrated a roughly 25-minute tour of the game's progress. It visited Kingsport and Owl's Head, several player homes and basements, decorating and NPC-conversation systems, crafting, and early adventure areas including The Clink. The video ended with preliminary combat and the winners of the second and third Unity Scene Jams.[1]
Portalarium emphasized that the combat shown was an early prototype still subject to testing and redesign. The demonstration was therefore a development snapshot, not a promise of final mechanics.[1]
Story sneak peek
The story section shifted from the path of Truth to Love. It described the Perennial Coast and a divided Ardoris, where estrangement between its rulers reflected a wider absence of compassion. Meanwhile, an undead army advanced from Necropolis, threatening a land already scarred by the Cataclysm.[1]
The passage framed the Avatar's task as more than defeating enemies: restoring empathy would require difficult choices and a journey into Malice. This archive summarizes the creative text rather than reproducing it.[1]
Founder shield and fishing pole
The Founder Adventurer Starter Shield was announced for Founder First Responder/Adventurer pledges and higher. Its face carried the Founder emblem: the shattered moon eclipsing the sun.[1]
The Fishing Pole of Prosperity was introduced as an indestructible store item intended to improve fishing speed, catch chance, and fish quality. The post noted that craftable and purchasable in-game poles could offer similar effects but would require repair. Those characteristics and the accompanying discount are recorded as a November 2013 announcement, not current availability or mechanics.[1]
Recruit-a-Friend
The special recruiting contest ended on October 31, with its winners deferred to the following update. Portalarium said the ongoing program would continue to award pledge credit and milestone rewards, including an emote, hunting-dog pet, and Darkstarr Moondial. These were historical crowdfunding terms.[1]
