Update of the Avatar #35 – 2013.07.29: Build Your Own Dungeon with SotA's Dungeon Kit Unity Assets
Update 35 released the first Shroud of the Avatar art package intended for use by outside creators: a modular Dungeon Kit for Unity. The update described Portalarium's “crowdsharing” experiment, early backer response, plans for public distribution, and the closing availability window for two Darkstarr rewards.[1]
Dungeon Kit release

The kit contained the environment assets used for the dungeon prototype demonstrated at RTX earlier that month. Developer-tier backers could download the package from the private Developer+ area and use the assets royalty-free in projects in which they were directly involved, provided Portalarium received credit.[1]
Portalarium invited creators to submit their resulting dungeons for possible use in Shroud of the Avatar. The official post also linked a walkthrough by technical director Chris Spears and a short guide to dungeon layout and Unity scene editing.[1]
Early response and wider distribution

More than one hundred eligible backers downloaded the kit during its first few days. In the associated survey, 80 percent said they expected to use the assets in some fashion, while 46 percent expressed interest in making content for Shroud of the Avatar. Interest in future packages was divided among more dungeon pieces, characters and creatures, and houses and decorations.[1]
The Dungeon Kit had also been submitted to the Unity Asset Store for wider public availability. The update framed the release as the first in a planned series of asset packages rather than a one-off download.[1]
Other announcements
The issue reminded backers that the Darkstarr Moondial and Darkstarr Metronome availability window would close on July 31, 2013. It also invited community members to suggest armor and clothing styles for a later poll and repeated the request to link Kickstarter and official-site accounts.[1]
