The NPCs field stores the number of town NPCs recorded by the community. Use a nonnegative whole number only when the count and its scope are known.
NPC totals can differ depending on whether an editor counts placed town NPCs, built-in scene characters, merchants, guards, or other services. State the counting method in the article when the distinction matters. Leave the field blank rather than combining incompatible counts.
