Achievements
An achievement is a recorded deed or milestone in Shroud of the Avatar. Achievements cover ordinary adventuring, long-term collections, exploration, crafting, story progress, and a few pursuits that exist mostly because somebody eventually had to pet every dog in New Britannia.
The game had tracked achievement data since 2016, but Release 154 made the system visible and practical. It added the Achievements journal, progress displays, painted badges, unlock notifications, tiered chains, and many new goals and rewards.[1] This in-game system is separate from the platform-specific Steam achievements.
The Achievements journal
The journal can be opened with /achievements, from the window menu, through the Achievements tab on the character sheet, or with a player-assigned key. It groups achievements by category and provides a search box, progress bars, painted badge art, and the date each completed achievement was earned.[1]
Tiered achievements occupy one row rather than filling the journal with nearly identical entries. The row shows the tiers already completed and the next target. Some discoveries remain hidden until the player makes initial progress, allowing secrets to remain secrets for at least a little while.
Completing an achievement normally produces a centre-screen banner, chat message, sound, and the same light effects used for a level gain. A large batch of progress found at login is condensed into a summary instead of arriving as a heroic avalanche of individual banners. Since a September 29 update, clicking an achievement banner opens the journal with the relevant category selected and the achievement highlighted.[2]

Achievement groups
The journal is broader than a list of boss kills. R154's launch-era catalog included the following major groups:[1]
| Group | Examples |
|---|---|
| Combat | Creature-family kill ladders, named bosses, player-versus-player kills, and other long-running combat totals |
| Exploration | Places visited, landmarks found in 24 towns, and the total map area uncovered from fog of war |
| Gathering and agriculture | Planting crops, harvesting resources, fishing, and the individual gathering disciplines |
| Crafting | Work in each crafting discipline, total crafting actions, and recipes learned where recipes exist |
| Collections and naturalism | Fish caught, tameable creatures collected, beast lore, and Songs of the Sundered Blade cylinders found by the player |
| Story and discovery | Quest milestones, including Soltown and the Path of Love, plus discoveries that remain hidden until begun |
| Social and recreation | Emotes learned, player-versus-player chess, checkers and backgammon wins, and Pet Every Dog! |
Combat and bosses
At launch, creature-family tracking covered roughly 1,400 creatures in 58 families. Larger families use ladders at 10, 100, 1,000, and 10,000 kills, while smaller families have shorter chains. Boss tracking included 84 named bosses and originally added 248 creature- and boss-related achievements. Party members receive credit together instead of making the last blow a small and deeply unheroic competition.[1] A pet's kill also counts for its owner, and each defeated creature is counted once.
Boss milestones have physical rewards as well as journal entries. The first, tenth, and hundredth kills award bronze, silver, and gold framed portraits of that boss. The trophies increase in size with their tier and are delivered to the player's bank.[3]

Saying “trophies” to a banker collects outstanding trophies and reports where received trophies are stored. If one has disappeared from the entire account, the banker can provide a non-tradable replacement for 5,000 gold.[1]
Exploration
Exploration achievements measure both particular discoveries and the ground uncovered through the map's fog of war. The account-wide area ladder begins with Pathfinder at 100,000 square metres and continues through Scout, Surveyor, and Cartographer to Mapmaker at 50,000,000 square metres. Each revealed patch contributes its actual area. Previously explored terrain is incorporated after the account makes its first new reveal following the ladder's introduction.[1]
Separate landmark achievements encourage players to find notable locations within towns rather than merely step through the front gate. The R154 catalog included complete-landmark goals for 24 towns.
Collections and unusual deeds
Launch-era collections tracked 68 kinds of fish, 177 tameable creatures, and 30 Songs of the Sundered Blade cylinders found by the player. The Naturalist category also covers beast lore. These figures describe the R154 launch catalog and may grow as creatures and items are added.[1]
Pet Every Dog! asks the player to use /pet on fourteen named dogs around the world. Completing it awards a red Akita Inu companion pet, delivered through the bank. The reward cannot be traded; a banker can replace a lost one.[3] Board-game achievements count wins against other players in chess, checkers, and backgammon.
Progress and older characters
Achievement scope varies. Map-area exploration is shared across the account, while story progress, character titles, and many activity counters follow the relevant character. Party members share qualifying creature and boss kills, and pets give their owner kill credit.[1]
Much of the underlying data predates the visible journal. Where the game has a reliable historical counter, older progress can be awarded or reconciled at login. Characters who had completed the Soltown and Path of Love story milestones received those achievements retroactively. Pre-achievement boss kills were also caught up so their trophy rewards could follow.[3] Progress that was never recorded cannot be reconstructed merely because a journal row now exists.
Rewards and titles
Every achievement has badge art, but not every achievement grants an item or wearable title. Reward-bearing goals include boss portrait trophies, the red Akita Inu, and titles tied to major accomplishments.
Creature-family ladders award titles at their upper end—for example, 10,000 dragon kills grants Dragon Nemesis. Crafting totals likewise culminate in titles such as Legendary Crafter. The related R154 title expansion also rewards mastery of complete skill trees: level 100 across a tree earns its title, while level 150 and 200 qualify for Elder and Legendary ranks. See Titles for the broader title system.[1]
Characters also received an era title during the R154 server move: Old World for characters created before October 1, 2026, and Child of Chaos for characters created afterward. These appear under Events in the Titles interface and are worn like other titles.[1]
Changes after the R154 launch
Achievement work continued in R154 patches after the October 1 launch. By the October 4 research cutoff:
- Five recipe achievements for Miner, Forager, Woodsman, Skinner, and Fishmonger were removed because those disciplines have no recipes and the goals could never progress.
- The Neon Tetra was made catchable with a rod during the dark of the moon; fish traps did not count as catches, which had made its entry and the 68-fish Complete Angler achievement impossible.
- Clicking achievement, reward, and discovery banners was connected directly to the relevant journal entry.
These are later R154 changes, not claims about the October 1 launch build.[2]
