You can place, remove, and adjust decorations if you have adequate permissions to do so.

Owners of Lot, Basement, Player Dungeon can decorate their own places (and decide who else can decorate in those places).

Governors and Stewards can also decoration in a Player Owned Town.

Not all items can be used for decoration. Also, decoration cannot always be placed in a given location (the decoration will appear red when it cannot be placed in the current location, but will appear green when it can be placed in the current location).

You must be in Passive Stance (i.e. not in Combat Mode) in order to decorate.

Placing A Decoration

To place an item as decoration, click and hold down the left mouse button on the item, then drag the to where you want to place it, and release the mouse button. If the item was green when you released the mouse button, the item will remain in the position in which it was placed. If the item was red when you release the mouse button, the item will return to wherever you dragged it from (the red color indicted that decoration could not be placed in that location).

Changing A Decorations Size & Orientation

After you left-click and drag a decoration, you can use the following commands to adjust its orientation and size (these are the default keys):

  • Fast Rotate Left or Right: Press Q or E, and R.
  • Slow Rotate Left or Right: Hold the LEFT SHIFT key while pressing Q or E.
  • Snap 45-Degree Rotate Left or Right: Holding the CTRL key while tapping Q or E (aligns to compass points).
  • Enlarge or Shrink: Hold the LEFT ALT key tapping X or Z (allows for maximum of 20% scaling up or down in size; this does not work for some decorations).
  • Flip 90-Degrees along Vertical Axis (Lie Flat or Upright) - Tap R (this only works with a limited number of decorations, such as swords and books) - note that the hot key for this command has been bugged for years. If this is not working for you, then go to Options, click on the Controls tab, scroll down to ""start glyph combo", and change its hotkey to a keyboard command of your choice (yep, "start glyph combo" is mis-assigned to "Flip Vertical").

Removing a Decoration

To remove decorations, click and hold down the left mouse button on the item, and then drag it onto the Avatar’s inventory.

If you are Evicted from your lot, if you Unclaim your lot, if you remove your Basement, or if you remove your Player Dungeon, then any residual decoration in the unclaimed/removed locations will be sent to your bank.
