A socket is a hollow area into which you can place a jewel or gem. A socketed item has a jewel or gem permanently fixed into the hollow area. The Avatar can socket equipment using the appropriate socketing recipe at the Alchemy Station. Socketing a gem or jewel applies additional bonus effects to the socketed item.
Items that Can Be Socketed[edit]
- Player-crafted Chest/Torso pieces, Shields, and Weapons can be socketed with either a Non-imbued Gem or an Imbued Gem.
- Player-crafted rings and necklaces/amulets can be socketed with either a Non-imbued Jewel or an Imbued Jewel.
- Artifact Chest/Torso pieces, Shields, Weapons, and Offhand items can be socketed with a Non-imbued Gem.
- Artifact Rings and necklaces/amulets can be socketed with a Non-imbued Jewel.
Imbued Gems and imbued jewels cannot be socketed into Artifacts.
The following items cannot be socketed:
- Back slot items (cloaks, backpacks, wings, etc.)
- Musical instruments
- Head slot items (helms, hoods, etc.)
- Belt slot item (belts, sashes, etc.)
- Leggings
- Hands slot items (gauntlets, gloves, etc.)
- Ephemeral Relics
- Pet/Summons Equipment
- ∗ Two-handed weapons must be socketed with 2 gems of the same type (using different types of gems does not work).
Where to Obtain the Socketing Recipes[edit]
- Non-Imbued - The recipes for socketing Non-imbued Gems and Non-imbued Jewels can be purchased in most major towns from NPC Alchemists, Magic Merchants, and Reagent Merchants.
- Imbued - The recipes for socketing Imbued Gems and Imbued Jewels can drop as loot from the Elves in The Obsidian Panopticon, with the highest chance to drop from the Obsidian Watch Commander.
