Template:Current daylight saving offset in North America

Template page

Expression error: Unrecognized word "strong".

Template documentation (for the above template, sometimes hidden or invisible)

Purpose

This template is intended to return 1 when the current timestamp falls within its calculated North American daylight-saving interval, and 0 otherwise.

Usage

{{Current daylight saving offset in North America|offset=-5}}

The optional offset is a standard UTC offset. Supported values are -3.5, -3:30, and integers from -4 through -10; other or omitted values use the default transition-hour case. The calculation uses the second Sunday in March through the first Sunday in November. It does not determine whether a particular locality observes daylight-saving time.

Current limitation

As of October 20, 2026, direct live parsing produces “Expression error: Unrecognized word ‘strong’” instead of 0 or 1. The underlying March and November Template:Weekday in month calls independently return the expected day numbers, so the failure occurs in the enclosing expression. This page documents the existing failure; repairing the calculation requires a separately reviewed template change.
