Poison is a form of damage than the Avatar can inflict upon foes, or that the foes can inflict upon the Avatar.
Avatar using Poison on Foes
In this game, poison is applied to the avatar's weapon. While the poison is active on the Avatar's weapon, each melee attack that hits the enemy has a chance to inflict the poison upon the enemy. Poison can be used with any melee weapon attack skill in Blades, Bludgeon, Polearms, and Ranged trees.
In order for the Avatar to use Poison against foes the following criteria must be met:
- The Avatar must learn the Poison Weapon skill in the Subterfuge Skills tree.
- The Poison must be in the Avatar's inventory.
Poison can applied to your weapon by either of the following methods:
- Drag the poison tack from your inventory and drop it onto your Utility Bar. Then, click on the Poison icon in the utility bar to apply the poison to your weapon.
- Place the poison in you Combat Bar. Then, click on the Poison icon in the Combat Bar to apply the poison to your weapon.
- Right click on the poison in you inventory and select "use item".
Note that there are 2 duration stats that are relevant to each poison:
- Duration that the poison is "active" on your weapon - this duration is how long your weapon will be capable of applying the poison to an enemy, and is determined by the level of your Poison Weapon Skill. After you apply the poison to your weapon, a yellow skull/crossbones/dagger icon will show under your Avatar's health bar. When you hover your mouse over the icon, the pop-up window shows the name of the potion that you have applied to your weapon, and the amount of time that the potion is still active (in seconds). The icon also has a sweeping grey timer that lets you know the approximate duration remaining.
- Duration of the poison's effect on the enemy after the enemy is poisoned - this is determined by the potion (Note: potions have a "Duration: 20 seconds" in their tool tip info, which is incorrect. The correct duration is the time shown next to the effect, such as "1-3 Poison Damage every 3 seconds for 15 seconds"). When a poisoned weapons successfully applies the poison to the enemy, a yellow skull/crossbones/dagger icon will appear under the enemy's health bar. When you hover your mouse over the icon, the pop-up window shows the name of the potion that you have applied to your enemy, and the amount of time that the poison is still active in each stack (in seconds). The icon also has a sweeping grey timer that lets you know the approximate duration remaining.
Many of the poisons have effects that can stack if applied multiple times to the enemy. Most poison effects will stack a maximum of the 3 times. Also, you can have multiple poison types applied on an enemy at the same time (so, each party member can be applying a different poison on a boss). For a list of the different poison types, see Poison Damage.
For a list of creatures that are immune to poison, see Poison Damage.
Creatures Using Poison on the Avatar
Many creatures have the ability to poison the avatar. Poison attacks usually generate damage-over-time on the avatar, but they tend to inflict this damage over a relatively short period of time. So, in many cases, the Avatar can just let the poison's duration expire. However, in cases when the poison damage rate is high or the duration is long, the Avatar can consume a Cure Poison Potion to stop the poison damage.
Creature that can inflict a poison attack include:
