'''Basements''' are an external area you can add to any [[Lot]] by placing a [[Hatch Basement Entrance]]. Only one Hatch Basement Entrance can be placed on a lot at a time.

:''A basement functions as an expansion to a lot that exists independently of any house on that lot. You may have a basement without a house and vice-versa. Like house deeds, basements are restricted by lot size. You may not place a Castle-sized basement beneath a Village-sized lot, for example.<br><br>To place a basement on a lot you need two things: A Basement Hatch Entrance and a Basement Deed. Both of these can be purchased from the deed and decoration vendors in, or near, the banks of most towns throughout New Britannia for gold or from the in-game Crown Store.<br><br>Basement Hatch Entrances are placeable decorations that can be deployed on the ground anywhere there is room on your lot. This includes inside or outside your house. Hatches are extremely cheap, but will not function without a Basement Deed.<br><br>Basement Deeds function much like house deeds. To connect your hatch to a basement, you must have the deed to that basement in your possession. The “Enter Basement” button allows you to actually change scenes into your selected basement.<br><br>Of course, your Basement Hatch is more than just a convenient entry point. With a Basement Deed in your inventory your Basement Hatch functions much like the sign outside of a lot, allowing you to change your selected basement (if you have multiple deeds), and adjust the permissions of who can change your decorations.<br><br>Basements can be freely decorated in the same way houses and outside lots can. The “Store Items” button clears all placed decorations from your basement, storing them in your bank until you claim them.<br><br>Basements can be set to allow for open-PvP, which is worth being aware of before following a stranger into their basement.<br><br>All basements contain Resurrection Ankhs.<ref>[https://www.shroudoftheavatar.com/playerinstructions Player Guide]</ref>

==Resurrection Locations in a Basement==
All basements have a [[Resurrection Ankh]] already added (typically on the first floor near the basement exit), so you can resurrect if you get killed in the basement.
However, it may be possible to die in a location in which you cannot reach the ankh (such as when a door closes behind you). 
You can add additional resurrection locations by placing [[Resurrection Ankh]]s or [[Resurrection Chaos]] in your basement (these items can be purchased in the [[Crown Shop]]).

You can use the [[Property Manager]] window to store a fully-decorated lot, basement, and dungeon, and then unpack it to either that same lot or another empty lot of the same size that you have claimed in any scene.
