Although the timing of the release of Ultima Online is remarkable, and it seems the Cataclysm might have occurred during the shattering of Mondain's Gem of Immortality, which created the various shards in that game, Lord British has stated that this is not intentional. The New Britannian calendar is back-calculated from when the developers began working on the game, January 1, 2013.
