Tutorial/The Blood River Massacre
After passing through the Lunar Rift from the Isle of Storms, you arrive in an instance of Blood River Settlement. Nearby, a scavenger named Fingers Slate is searching through the bodies of soldiers and elves alike.
- Oh, some tasty tidbits over here!
Speak to him to learn more about what happened here.
Hello
- Oh, heh, stranger, eh? Well, welcome to Blood River... really earned her name this day! Flowing now with the blood of both Vertas elves and humans alike! Plenty of salvage for everyone, don't be shy.
Name
- They call me Fingers, Fingers Slate. For perfectly respectable reasons, I assure you! I merely find tidbits others leave behind, you see.
Ask him about Salvage, and the dagger he found, to continue.
Salvage
- Check this odd little dagger out. It's made of something special! Must be worth a fortune... my fortune!
Dagger
- Look at that! Incredible metal used in its craft... I don't think it can ever break! This will fetch me quite a dear price in Kingsport, I tell you! Unless...well, tell me if you can offer something better. Kingsport's a long ways away!
I wrote of this in my journal.
Job
- Well, right now, I'd say I was helping to clean up.
health
- A good bit better than these folk, heh.
Blood River
- Well, it wasn't literally full of blood until now, I s'pose. I suspect the bodies will begin to rot fairly soon, and then it'll be considerably less pleasant!
Vertas elves
- Elves were the scourge of our forebears, fortunately there's few left these days. And fewer today, I'd tell you what! There's still a few hiding up north near Temple Pass!
Humans
- Idiots up from Aerie in the south... didn't know how tough these elves can be!
Aerie
- It's the closest city to here, down the Longfall on the coast to the south. They don't like me coming around much thanks to some prior... misunderstandings.
Misunderstandings
- Heh. Well, let's just say I came by the name Fingers honestly, through a bit of dishonesty. And what I thought amusing, the mayor's guard not so much. And that's all I will say on that matter! Heh.
Temple Pass
- It's a pass near where most of the elves hide out. Be careful if you go through the mountains there... the elves don't ask questions before they fill you full of arrows.
Offer something better
- You're not carrying anything I'd be interested in for that dagger. Come back and ask if you find anything!
What do you want?
- Oh, just anything that can sell for a fair bit of coin. And not the usual oddities you find on the elf bodies. They've got a few treasures hidden away, I'd wager!
Farewell
- Keep an eye out for good salvage, hm?
There are a few items Fingers will trade for, including an Ornate Elven Mirror or a Bejeweled Elven Statue. You can find these within the ruined houses. Return and offer one of them to Fingers.
- Hello again... did you find something better for me so you can take this dagger off my hands?
Find something better
- Hey, that statue you found might fetch a good price. I know a fence who'd give a pretty penny for that kind of work. Want to trade for this dagger, fair and square?
A trade window will open. Drag the item to trade and click to confirm.
- Well, thank you for your patronage, good sir, and I will bid you farewell for now! Good luck in your ...cleaning. Heh.
You received Bonesteel Dagger from Fingers Slate You gave your Bejeweled Elven Statue to Fingers Slate I wrote of this in my journal
Head to the gate out of Blood River and you will meet Edvard the Wanderer, a bard.
- Greetings, traveller. I am Edvard the Wanderer, a wandering bard of some renown. Who might you be, that brings you to this sad scene on this very red of days?
Tell him your name.
- Ah, NAME is it then? I'm sure before long, bards of any skill will know you on sight, but for now, you seem to be new to these parts. I trust you met he of the wandering fingers in the ruins of this sad place.
Fingers
- He is one whom fate brings to this place, much as you have found yourself here. He seems to be more comfortable with what he has found. An opportunity in the ending of other stories, I suppose. I see from the dagger you hold that you have already encountered his bargaining acumen.
Dagger
- Well, that looks very unusual! That tale will have to wait for later though. For now, you must go to Soltown and check in on the troubled people there. I have prepared some notes (which you may read) you should give to the guard you meet there, Stanley. For now, I'll unlock the gate for you. I've kept an eye on it thanks to some rather loud and untimely wolves on the other side. Good luck on your quest for truth, Avatar!
I wrote of this in my journal. (This is the end of the Path of Truth, for now...) I also wrote another entry in my journal instructing me to take the Path of Love and find Guard Stanley in Soltown, through the lunar rift past the bridge. You received 3 items from Edvard the Wanderer Unlock
- Of course, Avatar. Just trying to keep myself and my scavenger friend safe. Good luck and be safe out there.
Wolves
- Natural predators in this part of Novia. I am afraid they were attracted by the remains of battle. Nature does have a way of being brutal despite all our best efforts.
Quest
- Now that you have the bonesteel dagger, you should head to Aerie with all due haste! I will unlock the gate if you so need me to.
Dagger
- Definitely an interesting object you've found. Now that you have it, you should begin your journey to Soltown as soon as you can! Simply ask if you need me to unlock the gate once more.
Aerie
- It's a fair-sized city full of scholars and researchers and other such folk. You can find it a bit south and west of here... look towards the coast.
Farewell
- And to you a good day!
There are a few interesting places to visit within Blood River, including a cave above the waterfall where an Elf Child has lost their guardian. To continue the game, head down the path and out of town, where you will be transported to Soltown (at least, until the rest of this questline is implemented in a future release).
