File:Reshape_Shield_icon.png Applying a pattern to a crafted item allows players to customize the appearance of their equipment.
Patterns are consumable items that are used in the crafting system to reshape the visuals of an existing item while preserving the functionality and data associated with that item. Each standard pattern can be used exactly once and then it is consumed. Additionally, some items (such as Add-On Store and pledge rewards) contain Eternal patterns, which can be recovered with salvaging and applied to another item.
Reshaping with patterns will be restricted to the item type so that you can only reshape a helmet using a helmet pattern, or a 2-handed sword using a 2-handed sword pattern (i.e. you can't make a 2-handed sword look like a dagger).
