Adventuring Area scenes have different difficulty levels that relate to the Tier Level stated for the adventuring area scene.
- Difficulty Tier Markers: Some of you may have noticed a few outdoor scenes now have a spike with skulls next to their exit archways, but maybe you didn’t. No one can blame you, they’re pretty unobtrusive. If you did see them, you may have blown them off thinking they were simply decorations, but you’d be wrong, my friend! Those skulls are “tier markers” and they indicate the difficulty of nearby enemies; the more skulls on the spike, the more challenging the enemies.[1]
For higher tier scenes, the spike may contain Daemon Skulls, which indicate two tiers each, and/or bloody skulls, which indicate four tiers each. A tier with two daemon skulls and three normal skulls is a Tier 7 scene. A tier with one daemon skull and four bloody skulls is a Tier 18 scene.
Scenes may also contain paths with their own difficulty markers; for example, a Tier 5 scene may have a Tier 2 path leading to a specific location, and within the scene a spike with two skulls will be displayed at the entrance to that path.
Plus Designated Scenes
Some scenes are designated with a Plus (+), which are shown in-game with a ribbon at the top of the spike and indicate there was at least one large section (not just one enemy) within that same scene that was a notably higher difficulty.[2] This indicates that the scene is more dangerous than a typical scene of its tier, or contains pockets of higher tier opponents, and is generally designed for a group. However, the general level of enemies, resources, and quests is on par with other scenes of its tier.
Scene List
The following is a list of all scenes by difficulty:
