One of the most unique experiences in Shroud of the Avatar that you will not find in other MORPGs on the market today is the NPC and Questing experience.  What you can expect to experience is way more immersive and personal than the average RPG found today.  The game will react to you and change based on how you play.  You also will talk through finding your quests instead of having an alert with a predetermined script to follow with yes/no answers.

Note: While doing quests, make sure you watch the chat window and look at your journal. There are times when the details of the quest will show up in the journal, but not in NPC conversation or the chat window messages.

When you complete the quest, you typically receive a reward, which usually consists of Adventure Experience, Producer Experience, and gold. In some cases you may be rewarded with special items (such as a The Shroud of the Avatar, Virtue Banners, Artifacts, etc), and/or with some mundane items.

Quests can be started in many different ways. For example: Overhearing a woman sobbing[1], you happen to find a very strange Mystical Looking-Glass in the steeple of a chapel[2], you find a report on a dead body[3] or the good old fashioned way, speaking to a NPC.

 • When speaking to NPC's they sometimes will have keywords you can click on to receive a quest, and sometimes you will have to manually type in a keyword.
 • Note: Several quests can only be given when you manually type the help keyword in the dialogue window and then press enter.

Once you receive a Quest, you will see a Task added to your screen that will also have a short description when you move your mouse over the Task and then a matching Journal Entry in your Journal, with more information related to the current quest.

You can double click on any Task and your Journal will open to the page that has more information for that specific quest. Or press the (default) J key to bring your Journal up at anytime to browse through all of your current quests.

Of note, the hover-over description on a Task is only very basic information of what to do. Some quests are much more detailed. Always read the actual Journal Entry for a quest to read all of the information on how to proceed with a quest.
