Darkstarr Moondial

Template:Infobox Item A special in-game, home and yard decoration that will track the heavens both day and night! A very useful invention when planning strategies in-game, as this device lets you explore the mists of Revelations and Prophesy, unveiling astronomical events and revealing bits of lore to astute adventurers.

When a Moondial is placed in a Dungeon or Basement, the heavenly body positions in relation to the constellations will not be accurate.

Lore

All eight of the heavenly bodies representing the “anti-virtuous acts”, as well as Daedaelus, are present and they all rotate correctly around Novia along the same broad orbital plane as the sun… The great serpent now rises up through the empty path that the lost moon that shattered our greater moon once traveled. The off-kilter crescent-shaped circular arcs piercing the moons are at varying angles compared to the greater orbital plane, and though they don’t describe the actual path of the moons around Novia (since all the moons rotate upon the same orbital plane around Novia as the sun does) the arcs represent each of those rotating bodies own individual axis around which it spins in place as it orbits, and that axis is offset from the angle of the greater orbital plane by a factor of degrees. Those arcs pierce perpendicularly through those various different lunar axes. Each of the moons orbits at a different speed, which causes the offset arcs to create beautiful, constantly varying configurations that one could imagine describe the greater firmament and its hidden constellations in some arcane manner. Here you can see the moons all having rotated a bit at different speeds, exposing different patterns while still remaining on the single orbital plane.
 

One then uses the Moondial by merely standing beside the Moondial facing the planet at its center, visually aligning yourself with the constellation representing a Devotional within the town you’re interested in, and seeing which moons fall within that sector slice that angles in from the sector edges on either side of the constellation toward the center of the world… The Cabalists representing the antivirtues of those moons should be attacking any city bearing that particular Devotional at that time… In the example you can see that towns hosting a Devotional of Honor are being currently attacked by Avara while Dolus prepares to withdraw his minions, and Nefas is readying his forces in vicious support that is soon to come!

Obtaining

The Darkstarr Moondial was originially available to players at Citizen level or higher who pledged any amount before July 31, 2013. The Moondial was also available for anyone who received at least 10 referrals.

Trivia

• The Moondial was updated to match the celestial bodies and mechanics of the Novian system in Release 35.
• For Release 41, the Moondial was updated again to match changes to the moons and constellations. Additionally, a ring of Virtue icons (representing their respective constellations) was added to the outside.
