In ''[[Blade of the Avatar]]'' it is learned that Amanda was once captured by the [[Obsidian Empire|Obsidians]] when her family was traveling through [[Midmaer]], and then subjected her to the mutation magic of the sorcerers. Experiments both failed and successful left her with shriveled and misshapen legs, long and delicate fingers, and pointed ears, along with fragmented memories of what had been done to her.

Amanda has a strong relationship with her sister [[Syenna]], and it is implied to be the motivation for Syenna's work on behalf of the [[Council of Might]].
