There are 3 types of Treasure Maps: * Treasure maps that drop as loot and are used to find buried treasure chests - These maps can be placed in your inventory, but cannot be placed as decoration. These maps are called Decrepit Treasure Map, Decrepit Treasure Map Piece, or Blood Stained Treasure Map. * Treasure maps that are permanent Decoration in an adventure zone and are used for a treasure hunt - These maps cannot be taken and cannot be put in your inventory. * Treasure maps that are used only for decoration - in the Crown Shop, there is a Treasure Map Set available for purchase that contains 3 treasure maps that can be placed as decoration (these maps are called Treasure Map A, Treasure Map B, and Treasure Map C). =Treasure Maps That Are Permanent Decoration in an Adventure Zone= For these treasure maps, the treasure is located in the same zone as the map. The map cannot be taken and it cannot be placed in your inventory, so it is a permanent decoration in the adventure zone. Follow the clues on the map to find the treasure. This type of treasure map can be found in the following zones: * Penmawr Island - for the solution to this treasure hunt, see this post in the SOTA forums. * East Longfall Wetland - for the solution to this treasure hunt, see this post in the SOTA forums. =Treasure Maps that Drop As Loot= These treasure maps can drop as loot in either the same zone or a different zone from where the treasure is located. ===Getting Started and Basic Information=== :To get basic information on the treasure hunt process, talk to any of the Junior Treasure Hunters (the Junior Treasure Hunters are NPC children that can be found in Aerie, Ardoris, Central Brittany, Resolute and Castle Atos). :Also, talk to Selleck, who is standing on the Southeast dock in Port Harmony. :Selleck tells you the equipment needed and the method required to dig up treasure chests. :Selleck gives you an Explorer's Shovel, the Dig Emote, and one treasure map to get you started (if you need another explorer's shovel, then you can purchase an explorer's shovel from a Graveyard Caretaker NPC, such as the caretaker on the North side of Port Harmony). :To dig up the treasure chest, you must find the correct location, then stand where the "X" is located on the treasure map, equip the Explorer's Shovel, and then use the dig emote. If you are in the correct location, you will see a message on the screen that states "Your shovel hit something in the ground..." For more details, see the Spoilers and Loot Information section below. ===Types of Loot-able Treasure Maps=== :* Blood Stained Treasure Maps - these maps show treasure located in PVP zones. There are 6 different Blood Stained Maps. :* Decrepit Treasure Maps - these maps show treasure in non-PVP zones. There are 8 different Decrepit Maps. :* Decrepit Treasure Map Pieces - there are 4 pieces (numbered 1 to 4) that can be looted from buried treasure chests. These 4 pieces can be assembled into a Decrepit Treasure Map (Restored) that leads to treasure in a non-PVP zone. ===How do I Obtain More Treasure Maps?=== :Decrepit Treasure Map Pieces are found only in buried chests. :Decrepit Treasure Maps and Blood Stained Treasure Maps can drop as loot from chests (including un-buried chests and buried chests) and from various creatures, including :* Humans (including Bandits, Plunderers, Barbarians, Archer, Ebon Dawn, Ebon Cultist, Rogues, Atavist) :* Humanoids (including elves, kobolds, fauns, satyrs) :* Undead (including skeletons, zombies, ghosts, liches, frostgeist) :* Elementals & Golems (including air, earth, sand, obsidian) :Treasure Maps do not drop from skin-able creatures (e.g. bears, wolves, etc.) or from gathering nodes (ore, cotton, etc.). :Blood stained maps seem to drop from tier 4-7 creatures, whereas decrepit maps seem to drop from tier 2-5 creatures (note that a creature within a zone can be a different tier than the zone itself; the zone's tier tends to reflect the average tier of the creatures inside). ===Spoilers and Loot Information=== : {{#spoiler:show=Hint That May Help You Identify the Zone on the Treasure Map|hide=Hint That May Help You Identify the Zone on the Treasure Map| If you click all the conversation keywords, Selleck or a Junior Treasure hunter will tell you that a secret on the backside of each map can be revealed by placing the map and a lemon on an Alchemy Crafting Station, and then clicking craft. This will change the map to a "revealed" state that will show the secret message on the back (see Reveal Hidden Message). To flip the map over, click the "flip symbol" in the upper right of the map window. Note that the flip symbol is sometimes "floating" relatively far away from the edge of the map. Also, there is a bug that prevents activation of the "flip" icon if the icon is overlapping any other GUI interface element. So make sure you position the "flip" icon so it is overlaying only the background of the game window. For blood stained maps, the clue on the back is a virtue that corresponds with a Page of the Dirae Prophecy (these pages are obtained during the Episode 1 Main Quests, specifically while doing The Path of the Oracle). Each page can be found in a specific underground vault, and each vault can be accessed from a specific PVP zone. The PVP zone depicted on the map is the same zone that contains the entrance to the given page's vault. For example, for the Blood Stained Map #1, the clue on the back is "Sacrifice". The Page of Sacrifice and Narcissism can be found in Midras Vault, and the entrance to Midras Vault is in Midras Ruins. So, the map depicts an area within Midras Ruins. }} {{#spoiler:show=What Happens When you Dig Up The Buried Treasure?|hide=What Happens When you Dig Up The Buried Treasure?| If you are in the correct location when you dig, you will see one of the following messages on the screen: "Your shovel hit something in the ground." or "Your shovel hit something in the ground but you are not alone anymore." The treasure map will be removed from your inventory and then 1 or more waves of low to medium level enemies will spawn (sometimes you have to move away from where you dug in order to get the spawn to occur). You have 30 minutes to kill all the enemy waves that spawn (a 30 minute timer labeled "Ongoing Event" appears on the screen). If you kill all the enemy waves within the 30 minute time limit, the buried chest will rise out of the ground. Then a 5 minute timer (labeled "Time Before Reset") will appear on the screen. You must loot the chest before the 5 minute timer expires. When either timer expires, the chest rests. When digging up treasure in a non-PVP zone, a Blue Poison Dart Frog will rarely spawn. This frog which can either be killed or tamed in order to make the treasure chest rise from the ground. Note that this is the only situation in which the Blue Poison Dart frog will spawn (i.e. it does not spawn anywhere else in the game). When digging up treasure in a PVP zone, you will usually need to fight more waves of enemies compared to a non-PVP zone. Also, in PVP zones, a mini-boss has a chance to spawn in the last wave. The mini-bosses are named either Cid, the Murderer or Retz, the Murderer. These mini-bosses occasionally drop some unique loot (see below). }} {{#spoiler:show=Unique Items That Can Only be Obtained During a Treasure Hunt|hide=Unique Items That Can Only be Obtained During a Treasure Hunt| Unique Items Obtained From the Enemies That Spawn When You Dig :* Blue Poison Dart Frog - On rare occasions, this creature spawns when you dig up the buried chest marked on a Decrepit (non-PVP) map. It can either be killed or tamed in order to make the treasure chest rise from the ground. Note that this is the only situation in which the Blue Poison Dart frog will spawn (i.e. it does not spawn anywhere else in the game). :* Ephemeral Amulet of Free Will - this Ephemeral Relic can only be obtained when digging for treasure in a PVP zone (i.e. when using a Blood Stained Treasure Map), and only drops occasionally from the mini-bosses Cid, the Murderer or Retz, the Murderer (these bosses have a chance to spawn in the last wave). Unique Items Obtained From the Buried Chest :These items can only be obtained from chests on treasure maps (or purchased from another player). The unique loot in the chest can include: ::* Decrepit Treasure Map Pieces (see above for more details) ::* Recipe: Balustrade Stone Straight ::* Recipe: Balustrade Stone Corner ::* Recipe: Log Bridge (Short) ::* Recipe: Log Bridge (Long) ::* Ship in a Bottle (there are 3 variations) ::* Antique Map of Novia ::* Ancient Sextant - this item is only given as loot when you dig up the chest on the Decrepit Treasure Map (Restored). Non-Unique Loot in the Chest :The non-unique loot can include ::* Gold ::* Book of Learning ::* Supply Bundles ::* Artifacts ::* Ore ::* Bandit Dagger ::* Bandit Blade ::* Gems (non-imbued) ::* Etc. }} .
