[[Syenna]] is a [[Midmaer]]-born scout and warrior who serves the [[Westreach Army]] at the start of the [[Blade of the Avatar]] novella. Her sister [[Amanda]] lives in [[Etceter]]. She is tall, with sharp features, almond-shaped eyes, and deep tan skin. Her long honey-colored hair is bound in a tight braid to her waist, and has been bleached to nearly white by the sunlight.

Syenna was "rescued" from a [[Grunvald]] trade caravan by the Westreach Army, who found she knows the land, stories and people of Midmaer and the surrounding areas. She became a scout, but was actually using her position to infiltrate the [[Obsidian Empire]] and relay their plans back to Baroness [[Gianna Baden-Fox]].

Syenna is a secondary protagonist in the story, usually seen in the company of captain [[Aren Bennis]]. She seems to have an extensive appreciation and knowledge of the lore and legends of Novia, and frequently serves as a source of exposition. She was present when Aren found and claimed the [[Avatar Blade]], though she tried to talk him out of it due to legends of such weapons being cursed.

Later, Syenna orchestrated a situation where Aren would be sent on a scouting mission with her into [[Hellfire Rift]], giving her the opportunity to kidnap him and capture the blade with the help of her escort. She bore both to [[Etceter]] and presented them to the [[Council of Might]]. Syenna was revealed to be a member of the [[Barons Guard]] and a [[Shieldmaiden]] to the Baroness.

From there, they travelled to [[Opalis]] to seek information about the blade, but Syenna also took the opportunity to seek information that might aid her sister.
